TomTom GO 6000 Europe navigation system (15 cm (6 inches) touch screen, 8GB of internal memory, QuickGPSfix, TomTom Lifetime Traffic & Maps) (Electronics)

Customer Review

... And doing it in his usual superior quality. By the way now with a look-up, after half a year of intensive use (20,000 km)

Just to have a little mitzugeben Background: I am frequent traveler, and go every week at least once the route Nuremberg Munich Allach. Anyone who knows the track, above all now that time (summer of 2014) which again is strongly built, who knows the pitfalls of this route and is then also grateful if he is "smart" navigated.

Moreover, I have to say that I called 5 years ago a TomTom Go 940 Live my own. I was actually very happy with it, although now with age of the flash memory is no longer quite so fresh - and occasionally completely dismantled to the operating system of TomTom - in front of all and: That was incredibly slow in the calculation. What in 2009 on the site yet state of the art was, lets an already sometimes despair, once you get - formulated exaggerated - half an hour for calculating a route + possible alternative routes needed to be someday to be able to drive off, also the determination of the current Live traffic data is very slow, and then.

Well: The map subscription including Verkehrsdatenabo ran out and the sum was again so high that I felt that it was time to upgrade. So ordered it to this purely in size of Monster navigation system back home ... and stumbles immediately to the glossy display.

Alright ... can disturb, but not necessarily when the display is bright enough. Otherwise TomTom at the development was rather under the premise "Keep it simple, stupid!", Which means that the navigation is no longer supplied ballert with toys, but simply is only one Navi ... and I guess on the whole Extra Features back of my TomTom Go 940, that was indeed the bottom line is very practical, but:

- The reading of SMS has always been strongly influenced by mobile phone / smartphone dependent. Did it work then past with my RAZR V3 still good, it was with the BlackBerry Bold 9700
- The speakerphone ... yes, you could use them, but wanted to take really serious long talks about it not because the attenuation of ambient noise and the understanding were disastrous
- FM Transmitter ... for older cars I could understand that that is virtually ... but honestly? Converter cartridge into the tape deck with 3.5 mm jack and ran to the smartphone: Problem solved!
- Customizing ... that's the only thing I'm really a little lacking in my current Go 6000. I would also like to have back my 3 GTI as Navigationssymbol
- Weather forecasts ... a really handy feature that so unfortunately no longer there in 6000 Go.

So ... if you thus after many years of use of the Go 940 Live will miss only on the weather forecasts ...

But it is remunerated doubly and triply so for many other things:

- The Menüfuhrung is simple, straightforward and obvious
- The Places Search is also quite good, but is not quite manage to connect with the old Google search
- Download traffic information comes to dimensions faster than the Go 940 Live
- Route calculation comes to dimensions faster than the Go 940 Live
- The voice acting is still clear
- And a traffic bypass also takes place reliably.

A therefore was called criticism always like that you could avoid any closed roads ... frankly the 940 Live was difficult when Go, as this also always had the habit, despite blocking, as soon as possible to get back to the roadblock so you had to drive several attempts before they were back on track ... and that irritated quite immensely.

Now I have seen 6000, however, this also has a simple function in my previous practice no roadblock with the Go: The route namely to tread alternatively. In the case then calculates the navigation device from 3 routes and presents them marked in color on the display incl. Any loss of time compared to the current route. Then This explains also why the item "minimize delays" has ceased to exist. Either expects the navigation device that anyway "live" from, or you have the option at any time to reshape the route and save time. This results then they're fast that you get significantly faster over Landshut and Regensburg from Munich to Nuremberg.

The then paired with the easy to read display - it's really bright enough, even if it reflects heavily - and a tidy presentation - every car nowadays has at least one clock, why do I have to have on the Navi again? - And such nice features as 3D buildings in city centers makes it above all one thing: a good tool for people who need to drive a lot exorbitant and thus are dependent on a good route guidance. Nothing more than that can the Go 6000 masterfully and precisely what I buy also as a device.

Also of note that the map updates "Lifetime" and "lifetime" is defined by TomTom: There are even today updates for TomTom Home and TomTom, the old systems. And I'm sure that this is also another 5 years to be the case when Go 6000.

Who therefore the Go 6000 is useful for? For those who want clear route guidance, the servicing of Navis opens up quickly and want to quickly and reliably get to their destination. Since then also interfere less likely that the traffic bar on the right edge represents only the first 70km of the route: The Go 940 Live has indeed appears also traffic problems in 400km distance only if the still relevant when you're there?

Eben ... therefore the child is no longer a broken leg. A useful accessory for this Navi is above all the matching bag and a pen for input ... because the fingerprints quickly become very unsightly, especially when the sun shines.

TomTom is therefore once again a major success: An excellent navigation system is one offered here for a good affordable price with live traffic data for which no fees for mobile radio transmission still occur (also abroad not) and a highly intelligent bypass of traffic events. All this makes it therefore again state of the art equipment, even though I would have preferred a matte screen wished.

Nor should one be deterred from the initial set-up. This takes namely with the first map updates (which are then 5GB) sometimes quite long, above all the transfer of content to the navigation system After that you only times peace until the next map update, otherwise only small bits of information coming to the Navi ... then mostly Mapshare updates.

Updated on 10/20/2014

Now I own the TomTom Go 6000 for quite a time and I certainly can collect some experiences:

- When you turn on the width sidebar, then the whole presentation looks a little better and even more clearly. In addition, the strip can also scroll, so you can watch the route course as beautiful as you would already talking about the Go 940 Live could.
- So far, not had any failures and spontaneous reboots.
- HD Traffic works as far as the expected, albeit with a small caveat: It may occur that when new traffic information is received and it instructs the Navi to take the faster route, that route is then not adapted. Alternatively, the route naturally recalculate, but this is fiddly while driving and also only of those should be made that do not spend hours having to look at the display. Much better is it to adapt the Fahrtmodi of new routes and automatically at any time to take the fastest route: Then you have no more problems.
- In tunnels, the system can also convince and places no flying blind down - different and better it has with the Gyroscope Go 940 Live also does not work
- And ... again the subject roadblock:

Last Friday I had it, I had to start from the A9, as there had been a well-violent accident in front of the junction Nürnberg Süd. The Navi led me quickly from the highway and then sent me across the Middle Franconian Wallachia up to the moment when I answered a roadblock friendly that I now no longer come here. So what to do?

Logically, I would say: "All right, let Recalculate route, then the cause is good again!", But this is not sooo good because they can quickly then that it takes only a wide berth and again faces the roadblock , As mentioned earlier, the problem is not particularly new, because that had already the Go 640. So: What to do?

What makes the most sense, one to rotate, runs across the last intersection and then calculated an alternative route. Of these, one then takes the shortest ... and lo and behold: Roadblock bypass, direct amends. Despite absolute local ignorance on my part, and despite the Wallachia flair to get safely to its destination with its Navi.
