Customer Review

I definitely had enough of my old super cheap tripod, and as a new acquisition was definitely on. After some searching and my limitation to 200 I have come to the stands above, and have them all looked at side by side in a direct comparison. I must admit that I had actually already made a preliminary decision on delivery for the Manfrotto BeFree, but will be seen below that it was ultimately.

===== Montana Scout incl. Ball head (60) =====
Attracted by the enormous figure of merit, I have this stand taken into the test, although it is priced fell down from the frame. Here comes the underdog: The tripod is supplied (as the others) in a nylon bag, all the main parts are made of metal and it's out of the box the good impression of the show through in the reviews. So unpacked and set up flux. Basically, there are on this stand nothing to complain about serious, but it is immediately (and especially compared with the other two tripods) the poor workmanship on! The clamp locks the legs are stiff and rickety in the open state. The legs fall at open terminals in the upper stop (which may indeed be good, if you like it!). The inclination adjustment of the legs is unacceptable: stiff, uptight, one often requires two hands since his legs in a certain position can not unlock. The tripod is the longest in comparison with distance. However, the ball head falls smoothly: no friction brake (OK: price) but very choppy and rough in the movement. Fine adjustment of the head (eg the fine adjustment of the camera) is not possible, the ball head is quasi only 'open' or 'for', the transition is very low. The adapter plate is made of metal, but a fiddly affair: While the solver is backed up, but the backup looks like built from apprentice: A twist lock with latching in the form of a crude metal pin, which is not even chamfered decent. Overall, I can not understand why some here are excited about this tripod might be missing here some Compare options or they are all agency contributions. Here the plus-minus list:

+ Good price in relation to the basic functionality
+ Delivery OK, quality pocket OK
+ Creep strength at 2kg load Good
+ Ball Head holds 2kg, also with light telephoto.

- Clamps and levers are bad, sluggish
- Ball joint of poor quality (poorly adjusted, hakelt falls quickly)
- Adapter plate fiddly, Ausrastsicherung beneath contempt
- Ramshackle piping
- Noble little processing, only looks at the product picture good.

My rating: 3 stars (function OK, processing nix)

===== Rollei Fotopro C5i (140) =====
Admittedly, I had prejudices! The name 'Rollei' thinks the Fotoenthusiast to glitz and glamor and nowadays a successful Markting action. But a friend has placed my tripod to my heart and because I once cast an eye on it. Optical perfectly it comes out of its packaging and immediate results with a very high-looking (yes, yes, I know what such a bag costs!) Nylon bag lined, and with side pocket. When unpacking then immediately falls on: The Reißverschlüsss run super because someone has paid attention to the details. Still skeptical (and already in the head while unpacking my favorites from Manfrotto) I take it from his pocket and am equal to the design and captured by the compactness. Now I find that previous stand currently clunky when I deploy and lays this elegant device. The I actually hated screw tops of the legs turn out to be acceptable and can be readily and accurately tighten and loosen. Since there are (unfortunately) nothing to complain about. All catches and terminals are high-quality and smoothly. You can fold up the legs without lever operation, the catches clack just fed through. When opening must be total or just unlocked at each detent position. This all goes smoothly and makes a good impression. The adapter plate is not clicked, but tightened screw by (smoother). Technically OK, but others have done better (see below). The thick rubber on the feet give a good grip. But here's the trick: the ball head is top notch! Friktionsgebremst in rotation and head position. All settings Butterweich and even a scale reproducible. The head holds 2kg loose, only with my Mamiya RB67 with 180 lens I would rather be under it held my hand (but this camera, it was not me). The delivery weight hook, tool and hip bag for the monopod mode with this, which rounds off the thing. Here's my plus-minus list:

+ Super ball head with friction brake
+ Very good mechanics, all the levers go loose and tight
+ Small and compact
+ Very good bag
+ Good delivery (hook, waist bag, tool)
(+) Visually 'most beautiful' stand in the test (but remains unweighted)

- Screw caps of the legs (I do not like it, but technically are OK)
- Adapter plate design a bit strange

My rating: 5 stars

===== Manfrotto BeFree (140) =====

After the Rollei C5i had so presented, I already reveling in delusion about the quality and function of the Manfrotto! And sure enough: just after the cardboard the first positive surprise: A super nice nylon bag. Since the Italians had made their name once again honor. Deposed red and with an elegant design, this bag pushes the same time at the front of my heart! It could go on and it continued: From his pocket a very futuristic and elegant stand, photographer heart what you want more peels? Well, this question was unfortunately answered me very soon: a decent tripod! Unfolding the stand already provided the first weak point: the innovative technology of the base (connection legs with the ball head holder) has so tricky! It is clamped to the legs against the (powder coated?) Basis, which quickly leaves its mark here. There is also here pinching the paw, although the part admittedly 'different' looks than other stands. A strange turn-latch indicates the angle of the legs to the vertical front and convinced not (more on that later). No matter, I thought, now I am enjoying time on the ball head. Well went to do so. Compared to Mantona stand naturally Gold +, but against the Rollei? Unfortunately, only ne 2, I'd say. No friction brake, but the head is otherwise processed top. But is a bit of a downer when you come from Rollei. But one must do his head no wrong. The adapter plate on the other hand is great! snapped quite a, ejection secured (He Mantona! So to do that!) and opened and closed quickly. Again, top notch! The head is generally meeting all expectations, is smooth and very well adjusted. Manfrotto quality precisely. Unfortunately, the Rollei head is just a little piece even better. Positive and test winner in this point are the legs themselves. The mechanism is great! Terminals easily go and are still rock solid. Manfrotto up! Ruck-Zuck are the feet down, so must be that and because the Rollei can also look at something. Perfect! And now comes the Hammer: On my hardwood floors are Mantona and Rollei bombproof. Manfrotto bend the legs at load externally! Is not it, I thought, and I again checked everything but because the mouse bites from no thread: The Manfrotto sags, the legs slide towards the outside! Well, unfortunately, what's then. Clear: If you shoot forward to parquet, but in a museum but happy times on stone floor and the issue here at all. I think in the open field, the point is invalid, but rather strange for indoor shots. Digicams and lightweight cameras should not disturb I guess, but in a good 2kg Shard together quickly and that should not be. Well, with a heavy heart I have the Manfrotto packed again and again wondered silently. Here the plus-minus list

+ Very good workmanship
+ Optics super, futuristic, very beautiful bag
+ Beinklemmung: divine!
+ Small tripod in Test
+ Best adapter plate

- Legs turn through and slipping on smooth surfaces (with> 2kg load)
- Basic design and strangely not optimal

My rating: 4 stars (5 stars for light cameras)
