1. The Mortal Instruments: City of Darkness (Paperback)

Customer Review

The City of Darkness is a series that I love. I have had to read this first volume there two years and I really wanted to read it again. It's done and it allows me to review!

I will not make summary of the plot because the back cover already disclosed much. The story is set in New York and I liked that the author bother to name the different places where the protagonists go out and about, it allowed me to remember my trip in this city, there is a year and a half. In this city we will encounter a range of creatures known as demons, vampires, fairies, werewolves, sorcerers but also and this is the innovative Nephilim (human mixture and Angel) who are Hunters call of shadows and whose role is to eradicate the demons. They have no magic to speak of but they derive their power from a stele with which they carve runic symbols that have magical effects. Clary is a lambda schoolgirl who lives alone with her mother and finds himself diving in spite of herself in this parallel universe. She'll quickly discover that this was rooted in his genes.

I am absolutely a fan of the writing style of Cassandra Clare. There rhythm, adrenaline, quickly scroll pages, difficult to close the book for a break so there was action! However, the author poses with skill bases his world and intrigue while presenting the main characters. You still cling a little bit because there are many things to learn and remember. Clary is the main character, I like it moderately. We will say that it has not a great role in this first volume though it is moving heaven and earth to find her mother even put themselves in dangerous situations. I reproached him for his naivety, not realizing the feelings of boys around him. And speaking of boys Jace I love the bad boy, cynical big heart and Simon, egghead idealist. The secondary characters are also colorful! The book ends with a terrible revelation that will have to challenge the feelings of Jace and Clary. There, I knew what to expect but when I first read it I was shocked I did not see it coming.

In summary the deadly cut is a very good introductory tome which I put the note in 4/5 and I am eager to read others =)
