Now Sony has brought the 2014 successor, the BDP-S1200 on the market. As his predecessor had me really convinced by the DVD unacceptable problem, I decided now to launch a final attempt to give and this follow-up model one more chance. Lo and behold, it was worth it!
Biggest plus point: The problem described above occurs when the current DVDs BDP-S1200 NOT more! Hurray !!!

Operating volume:
Here was the predecessor of Sony already very quiet, I am now, especially after the brief interlude with the Philips Blu-ray player, really happy because all three media, ie CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays are whisper quiet and time played without quirks. Especially with quiet music on CD I will have no disturbing noises.
And indeed, one can enjoy version of "Old Love" by Eric Clapton fully in peace songs such as "One for My Baby" by Robbie Williams, "The Nearness of You" by Nora Jones, or the Unplugged. The drive produces no humming, no chatter, no clicking, no tweeting, or otherwise violate any high-frequency noise, which would detract from a sensitive listening.
Even older, part a little bit scratched CDs, where for example the Philips Blu-ray player in "highest pleasure tones" rattled, packs of Sony with links, error-free and just as quietly in the playback. TOP!
Only when pressed in an otherwise completely silent room while playing the "Mute" button, I sometimes could see a very slight hum, the sound around a power line similar. However, this is so low frequency, monotonous and quietly that it is not significant even when playing aforementioned songs. On average for me was the drive during playback imperceptible, and I'm really sophisticated at something and have a sensitive hearing.
Many are therefore possibly perceive anything. With DVDs and Blu-Rays, it does not look very different. Since the drive is working just as quietly during playback. Quiet films can thus be enjoyed as fully. My Player is the way anywhere in the room, in about two and a half meters distance from the listening position.
Solely when loading media or when calling menu the drive scrubs brief a few times back and forth, but neither this disproportionately loud nor annoying. That's it for now. Likewise, the very high-frequency sound, the still partially gave the Sony predecessor in standby mode by itself, no longer exists.
Therefore, my conclusion is the operating volume: PERFECT! The ears wiggle with joy.
Image: sharp, color-fast, clear. Perfect Blu-ray image, and especially DVDs are really enhanced the image and scaled up to a surprisingly high, partly almost HD-ready quality. So here also: TOP!
Network / Streaming:
I personally do not care for big apps and other smart functions. An adequate basic service is here but more than satisfactory available when you connect to the Internet via LAN.
A few reviewers have written, DLNA would the BDP-S1200 do not support only one of the new product range. I myself have not tested it, but he should of course in 2014 by default can.
On the other hand, that my A / V receiver and now even my TV so that I no longer interferes with the apparently missing function in Blu-Ray player. Sony You should however make available when the sister models are capable of doing. This really is not a great feature, which justifies a higher price.
Also to Amazon Instant Video function I can not say anything. Should it be true that it is not available (yet), I would wait for a try. The player is only recently on the market and software is initially often flawed and is rectified usually with firmware updates. I do not need the function, but can understand people who they want already use and are annoyed that it does not.
USB media:
Plays, as well as its predecessor, all problems from what I possess. Whether and how much "new" codecs are now really additionally support that we can once an open question.
Design and connections:
At first I was the "pyramid shape" quenched something. But he looks at the product photos from far "pointed", than it actually is. The lid is surprisingly flat in reality, yes almost flat.
Other "components" of a home theater system you can not make it yet. Not too sure because of the cover form, but simply because the player is so small and compact. Not even a completely flat lid would not change anything. So with me is only the center speaker on the player, it easily and firmly.
Personally, I find just the compact size and good change the design afterwards again to some successful than its predecessor. Only the piano lacquer Front would be Sony, as it did, rather to save the Sony BDP-S1100. Here you have to really be careful, otherwise you quickly scratches on the glossy surface. The rest, however, that approximately 3/4 of the lid is matte black and therefore much less susceptible.
The Power light is again become more discreet than its predecessor a piece, and only a narrow, white slot on the front panel. Looks chic. The former 4 buttons on the unit have been cut in half and have two built-in to cover keys given way. Look in my opinion also much fancier.
At the back are as usual a COAX, HDMI, and a network connection to find.
In addition, there is a really positive innovation in my eyes: The power supply for the power supply is no longer permanently installed in the player, but externally and can be connected directly to the player. This is advantageous because if the power supply should times get broken, you do not have the same throw away the entire player / for repair! Very laudable and environmental / resource-efficient!
Remote Control:
Compared with the BDP-S1100 instead of round now with square bottom. Otherwise, everything seems as usual. BUT: The number keys have been deleted! This may annoy some one or the other, if one has been happy times be selected due to the lack of front displays tracks directly by number key. This leaves only the Miteinbezug of Femsehbildschirms left or the use of a universal remote control that still has number keys.
Otherwise you have to stop now by flip until you arrives at the desired track. ;)
CONCLUSION:
For people who just like I put, that focus on the use of CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays and their quieter playback, I can now recommend this device completely.
It's absurd to now already has delighted that a player is playing the inserted media softly. Was supposed to be normal.
In this case, I have again noticed that the trouble with Information Exchange, compare and wait just yet may be worth. Who is satisfied with undercooked crap, should not be surprised if you only get to buy junk. This is here fortunately no longer the case.
For the 60 that I paid for this player, I'm ready now really happy. A quiet music and movie enjoyment finally seems nothing more to stand in the way and I just discover my new film and music collection.
For the app and streaming generation of these players may possibly not been fully developed. Then you should decide in my view but the same for models with more features plus wireless.
Should Sony still manage nachzureichen with a firmware update a shuffle function for CD and MP3 media, and a performance possibility of playlist files and not breaking off playing a piece of music while navigating another file folder, I would give the unit 5 stars.
As long as there is of me 4 stars for a small, fast, smart, and whisper-quiet player, which reproduces all music / video files smoothly on round discs and USB storage media. And this at a reasonable price. Finally well done Sony!
