Here is an overview in condensed form:
Positives:
---------
- Android OS 4.4.2 (relative date for tablet standards)
- Huge selection of programs thanks Android system (apps / games / etc.)
- Extensibility of memory through Micro SD card (up to 64GB and possibly more)
- Display with 1280 x 800 pixels and resolution, brightness, color reproduction, detail
- Multi-View => View multiple windows on one screen
(Applies only to apps that support this function - such as maps, Gallery, QuickPic, video player, etc.)
- Root privileges to install (after Towelroot and Chainfire the WWW)
This allows you to completely uninstall unneeded programs preinstalled!
Absolutely brilliant, because then the said programs will no longer run in the background and use up RAM and battery performance.
- Ad Blocking available (only possible with root privileges)
- A balance of price / performance ratio
- No cell phone SIM card required (since no telephone functions)
- Can also be used as a picture frame with slide show
- With the appropriate programs all sorts of video and audio files can be played
- Easily transfer files from the PC to the tablet or the Micro-SD card
- No special software required for data transfer
- Samsung Kies software: synchronization of tablets,
Backup all data or re-position possible
- A 10.1 inch screen should do the trick,
if you want to read carefully eyes halfway content,
Websites calling in acceptable size,
Photos looks, etc.
- No cost trap, since no mobile internet possible
- When IR remote control available
Negatives:
---------
- Sound quality is a bit poor as its predecessor, since internal speaker is very small;
only marginally better than many smartphone
- Digital camera on the back with 3 megapixel bit poor by today's standards,
simple picture quality, bit recording modes available (eg no HDR)
as even other Samsung smartphones in a year is possible!
Too bad, but not important.
- RAM (1.5GB RAM) only standard in conjunction with Android KitKat (4.4.2), if you want to allow power-hungry apps running side by side. It ranges from easy for the standard user!
- Micro-SD card must be deeply inserted into the Micro SD slot. Without long fingernails
or aids (eg toothpick ruler, debit card or similar) is hardly possible.
- Mobile Internet only available with more expensive models
- Whether there will be free software CyanogenMod for this Tablet, remains to be seen. I also do not expect that this Samsung tablet even donated many updates.
- Display might have something more pixels, but of course also save energy a. In the price range that is anyway difficult to find.
Overall, the tablet is going very well and without any errors. The equipment corresponds to the current entry level model with Tablets and should already be there also. If I compare the 3 directly with its predecessor Galaxy TAB, makes this tablet a lot more joy in all areas, because the processor is not constantly overloaded and still has some reserves. So I would TAB 3 no longer buy or see a cheaper alternative, because the 10-20 euro price difference are then saved on the wrong end! Free memory is unfortunately a joke because Android 4.4.2 and especially the many pre-installed add-on programs are constantly running in the background. I have thanks to root privileges and Titanium Backup various programs I laid quietly, so as not to run permanently in the background and pointless wasting memory. So at least a few hundred kilobytes of memory free for my image viewer, music player, or other programs. I have looked for the tablet still bought a fast 64GB memory card to and lots of photos and music copied to the card. So you can sometimes take away and show his holiday pictures spontaneously. From time to time I use the tablet as a picture frame. That's really handy. There are also lots of accessories (bags, screen protectors, stand, external battery for USB socket, etc.) and card reading devices that allow access to external USB drives, SD cards from digital cameras, etc.. However, you must be aware that the device does not support mobile usage, and you can go home only on wireless and on the go via Wi-Fi hotspots (eg in cafes, hotels, etc.) to the Internet. However, on each hotspot enabled smartphone, you can quickly set up an Internet connection (available from Android 2.3).
Conclusion:
-------
This tablet is capable, in my view, the ideal entry-level device and also for ambitious Tablet User. The colorful display makes the image look real pleasure. What good is a 100-200 tablet when the display is not brilliant ?! Then you goes namely the desire it. With the many expansion options are also very flexible in the future in the development of applications. The battery provides enough power to the device to make some days and the built-in quad-core processor provides enough power to allow multiple apps running simultaneously. The sound of the mini speaker could be better, but who wants to listen to music or watching movies, then fetches the corresponding speaker / headphone to (Recommendation: JBL JBL Flip or batch) or combining it with the hi-fi system. There are certainly plenty of other tablet manufacturers some more amenities (eg Trekstor, Acer, Asus, etc.) at the same or lower price. Nevertheless, I appreciate Samsung devices, good display, the SD card slot and the successful user interface. The predecessor TAB 3 is to have currently favorable, but for the 10-30 euro price difference you waive lots of power and abilities that are saved on the wrong end.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
-------------------
Some low-cost provider / dealer on the Internet to sell devices that are intended for other European countries (eg The Netherlands). That's not so bad. Nevertheless, it is striking if one takes the unit for the first time in operation. They will then, for example, welcomes in Dutch and can then change the language permanently in German.
