Strangely Sampler

What has brought out a strange compilation ECM in 1985 as LP and a few years later unchanged as re-issue on CD! The greatest artists of the label will appear in the "Works" series with a cross-section of their work and it seems almost as if the sometimes rather idiosyncratic Keith Jarrett himself the selection would have worried. Of course you can only present a very limited section of a oeuvre on a single LP, in 1985 already at several dozen lay publications. But why did they not at least thought about a double-LP or in republishing it, at least to fully exploit the capacity of a CD?
That a sampler to ECM recordings of Jarrett no title of American Quartet contains whose discs primarily on "Impulse" have appeared, is logical. But why a trio piece with the new release was not at least considered?
No matter enough gemosert, it's just an idiosyncratic compilation that happy on the 43-minute sampler "Works" Jarrett Friends. Because a CD on which the grandiose title "Country" and "The Journey Home" of the European Quartet of Jarrett with Jan Garbarek are united on Sax, can sometimes so bad not to be. Three solo piano pieces of the Master, one each Studio Recording from "Facing You" - and the "Staircase" album and one of the great additions to the "Sun Bear Concerts" make the corset of "Works". That Keith Jarrett also strings Composer and other instruments than to play with the black and white keys are white, are probably "In The Light" ("String Quartet - 2nd Movement") the excerpts from "Invocations" and confirm. To what extent it is the same mastery is like on the piano prove remains to be seen. Nevertheless, "Works" an interesting sampler for Jarrett fans, probably less suitable for beginners.
