But "7 lives" turned out to be a CD that listen each time better. And what had I expected? A poor imitation of the first two albums? No. That Genghis Khan would introduce an entirely new sound in pop music? Neither. So I took the songs closer look, and lo and behold: there was still the old Genghis Khan-feeling!
The "classics" were left largely unchanged in the arrangements which was already good, does not try to improve. The song was backed only a driving beat that makes the old hits again today discotheque fit. Especially "Genghis Khan" and "Hadji Halef Omar" benefit from this new beat. But the lesser-known hits like "Samurai", "Rocking Son" and especially "China Boy" have been lovingly dusted off and modernized with some new drum and guitar sequences, which makes them the absolute stunners. So far so good. The fact that the old titles were excellent, we knew all. But what bring Genghis Khan, then, for the future? Without the "old master" Ralph Siegel as a songwriter and producer, and with a new team, which is known primarily for pop and folk music?
So to make it to premise: Kudos to the work of the brothers Weindorf and indestructible Bernd Meinunger! Although some of the new songs do not sound right away as the well-known Mongol (I'm thinking of "The devil can wait", with quite a schunkel willing Marquee public might be brought in mood, or even "In Mongolia," the only reveals after repeated listening, that behind the "-lei, -lei, -lei" a really groovy earwig hides), but the majority of the title takes its place in the tradition of the band. "Temujin" - a comeback single that really need not fear comparison with the first-ever hit, "Genghis Khan". "Burning Taiga" a more classic Meinunger-Genghis-Khan-text it has rarely given. And with the "Horde Goldnen" the author team has created one of the coolest DK titles of all time, which should be an absolute live Abräumer. But highlight of the CD is unquestionably "red sun over Kazakhstan". A song that tells a similar story as the inimitable "Come Home" and increases by a slow, deliberate start to a rapid chorus. If that's not a candidate for a single release, then I do not know. What did I do a bit of trouble, the two ballads on "7 lives". "Doswidanje" is certainly a brilliant idea to finish a concert adequate but it also drifts hard on the schmaltz border. And "As fire in the wind"? The title should be a tribute to the deceased band members. The text is so far also perfectly fine, and parts of the songs go well into the ear and the heart, as intended. But still: The many Hall, which was placed on the song, it makes my ears whiny, as it should have been. Well - that's for sure a matter of taste.
All in all, however: "7 lives" is an absolutely successful comeback album an excellent pop group that has previously made us a lot of joy that has given us a lot of good memories, and - as I am sure - even for many Another great memories will make. From my player, the CD is no longer come in any case since they appeared out! So people will buy "7 lives"! Perhaps Genghis Khan can on the next album (and I press our fingers crossed that there will be a successor) will also vary a bit in the topics. Mongols are not always happy. And does not need a "lei lei lei" every song. Finally, it was the best song from the classical period of the immortal "traitors" who had really nothing to do with "dancing on the table". And if you have to take any more classics on the second album, there is certainly an opportunity to make even more of the superb solo voices of the three remaining khans. My rating: despite the above-mentioned light objections 5 Stars!
