Humans and Ildirans emerged victors in the war against the hydrogues but their losses are heavy. And unfortunately for them, no respite is granted.
Robots klikiss, led by SIRIX, vowed to exterminate the humans to the last, starting with the planets populated by innocent settlers. When one of these raids through its small fleet, however SIRIX will be shocked to come face-to-nose with Klikiss, their creators, against which the robots had turned black once. They thought to have wiped out all but the robots were wrong. Not only their creators are back, but in addition, they determined to destroy the machines and take back the worlds they owned. The latter now occupied by human settlements, it's just the horror that awaits these poor people. The Klikiss will park the like cattle in enclosures, waiting for the right moment to assimilate!
Ildiran the side of the empire, it will also be very bad. Rusa'h, former dissident ildiran, became incarnate of Faeros, fire creatures. By merging with them, he has a formidable weapon in retaliation for the empire which dismissed. It is rampant in the thisme, burning the links that form this network that unites the souls of Ildirans to each other, as embodied in Faeros will decimate. But worse than that, Rusa'h also found a way to break the heart of télien to address directly to the forest world ...
In summary, the lives of thousands of Humans and Ildirans no longer hanging by a thread, while the ancestral entities (Verdanis, Faeros, Wentals) confront and destroy snarled. And apart from all this mess, there are terrible and invincible Klikiss priori that rebuild and recover forces for days to days. You will therefore understand, the atmosphere is dark and nothing goes in the spiral arms of our galaxy '
At the beginning of each volume, we can appreciate that the author, Kevin J. Anderson, an update on the story. Since it takes each time to wait a year for the release of each book, the foreword is quite welcome and allows you to quickly dive back into the bath. As the end of the book lexicon is extremely useful throughout the reading.
With this space opera that spans seven volumes, Kevin J. Anderson embarked on an ambitious saga, rich universe and characters, some of which are very well developed (especially Basil, Peter and Jora'h). While one might think that the author has reached the heights of the imaginable, it never ceases to amaze by continually adding new elements. His imagination is boundless, sometimes a little too farfetched, which could give the impression that it is disturbing paid to write kilometer.
His writing style is simple and fluid, even if some replicas are completely unnecessary (eg 319 p. "Wow was the only word he managed to say"). Short chapters allow a rhythmic narration. Each chapter is named after a character in the saga, and it is through the eyes of the character referred to in chapter one lives the story. This therefore offers different perspectives on events. It's interesting and well thought out.
In this sixth volume, there are really a lot of players, so that the chapters are short archi (146 chapters, an average of 3 pages each). Here it is almost a disadvantage because the pace is found in too choppy. As "The Saga of Seven Suns" is drawing to a close, it is also for Kevin J. Anderson's time to put some order, something he did rather quickly by removing a multitude of characters. So, as you book, the chapters are longer, but at least there are fewer players, allowing a less jerky narrative.
This work, as a whole, is strongly influenced by other works of science fiction (Star Wars, Dune, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Hyperion '). However, the author manages to mix everything into a story of her own grown, and my faith, it must be said, the result is successful. It is not a masterpiece, but you can say "The Saga of Seven Suns" it has the advantage of being abundant and entertaining at will. It is a reading that suits me well and I am very curious to see how it will all end in the last volume, even if, for now, I do not really see the solution. In any case one thing is sure, it will end badly, very badly '
