Nevermind (Blu-Ray Audio) (Blu-ray Audio)

Customer Review

This product review is from the Pure Audio Blu-Ray of Nevermind.

Listening to Pure Audio, Blu-ray, or HD PCM Stereo Master, so once you connect with it an outstanding playback quality. If you read the advertising copy of Universal Music in relation to its Pure Audio series, then there is talk of "original master tapes" and the promise of "Blu-ray Pure Audio discs deliver the sound the artists originally heard in the studio When thesis classic albums were recorded. " In short: This series is aimed at the more audiophiles among us, or (it's all here to Grunge and not eg jazz) at least on phones with certain quality standards of the recording or the desire to be able to play the original as authentically as possible at home, if necessary with appropriate equipment.

After the recently acclaimed "In Utero" -Remaster which is in fact quite successful (even if you can discuss the 2013 mixes), the hope was entirely justified, that Nevermind would be heard in its original version.

But (you guessed it) who hopes for the ultimate Nevermind experience, unfortunately mercilessly disappointed: Whoever was responsible for this product, it held apparently for the best instead of the "Original ribbons" simple counter above BillBoard the 20th Anniversary to use Remaster. The latter, however, is - as is apparent also from many Renz ions - been deprived substantially in its original dynamic compared to the first publication. Dynamic Range Original 12, Remaster 7. Although the Dynamic Range says not necessarily about sound quality and the remaster like about mobile players certainly have its appeal, but if it is like this be a "Pure Audio" version, the in my opinion, the appropriate price is, then there should also be behind the sonically possible maximum.

What use to me because 24-bit / 96kHz sampling rates, if the underlying master already sonically
was reduced ?? Why they advertise "uncompressed audio" when the master was already greatly compressed than the original ?? I rippe no CD down on mp3, let the equalizer with dynamic compression over running for the volume not too much varies within the song, raise to a little bass, so everything was a bit "crunchy" effect, it eventually create 24-bit HD Flacs and sell the then as the ultimate and original HD experience ...

Another comparison:
Anyone who buys a movie on BD with lossless audio, and then adjust the dynamics on the receiver to "Midnight", because it yes but is sonically much more pleasant when a voice as loud as an explosion, a champagne corks as loud as a gunshot is and in a horror film, none more wg. would frighten a slamming door. The film would be the same, the image is still top, but still something is missing. Or if guitars and drums were down regulated at a rock concert of the volume all on the same level ... Yes, the song and the melody / lyrics would still be the same, but the music experience as a whole would be rather limited. Sure you can not down break 100% dedicated to music, because it is less about coarse as to fine dynamics here, but the effect is similar with me: The Remaster I can on my system hardly hear at a time without getting a headache or the volume runterzuregeln from song to song. The original can I repeatedly hear and turn the volume while still high, making it sound better, and not strenuous (oversteer, clipping, etc.). I envy those who do not perceive this, but I hope I have been able to make it clear in the approach, what I expect from an original HD recording.

I therefore advise either the original mix (CD-platen or better vinyl) or if it should be already the Remaster, preferring to resort to the Anniversary Edition, the sound hardly in what way inferior to this BD, and in addition to the lower price nor the number of Bonus may include tracks, was here for whatever reason waived.

Whether one Nirvana now must really hear necessarily in audiophile quality, or the idea of Grunge thereby actually reduced to absurdity, sometimes left out, but this product evokes in my view (deliberately?) False expectations and be in this shape in my opinion worth money at all.

Nevermind se 5/5

Wg. Waiving bonus tracks, overpriced for the price offered and the targeted advertising lies 2 points deduction (unfortunately you have to give a).
