My assessment mainly refers to the scan function, since I hardly prints and faxes chic, but commonplace digitize documents and receipts.
To install:
I have installed the printer to an existing wireless network and it worked without any problems. The instructions and animations on the color display are very comprehensive, and overall there are not many steps to readiness necessary. Before the software must be installed on a PC or laptop via the enclosed CD, you can put in the operating state the printer thus. One should keep the WLAN Key ready; It's the easiest and safest way to integrate the device into the existing network. The Key can enter quickly on the display. A subsequent review of existing firmware update makes sense. This can also be done at the printer as soon as this over the network has access to the Internet.
After the printer is configured, you can install the software and drivers on your PC. The setup is very easy. During installation, I recommend, if necessary, deselect unnecessary software components such as the Bing Bar; but overall showered a HP not forcibly with much concern "spam software". The installation process precedes the extent almost completely automatically. In between you have the printer that now is on the network, select from a list of detected devices. I recommend also to check here after installation for possible updates. Registration with the OCR software provider is not necessary and does not bring the promised benefits.
Handling:
The access to the functions and settings of the printer is possible in various ways. After installation, several shortcuts are stored on the desktop, with which you can gain access to the printer features. Changes to the settings of the printer can make one by calling the Control Panel via the IP address. Alternatively, you also have convenient access to the features and settings via the display of the printer. The screen responds well to touch, and the icons and menu items are understandable.
Scan function:
All could be for me of any long-term significance, is scanned by me and collected into Evernote. Therefore, my main focus was on the device to be acquired on the merits that I can scan documents and other documents as comfortably as possible and in reasonable quality. A standalone scanner, especially with automatic document feeder (ADF) would have cost considerably more.
Scan works with this device very easy. On the desktop a shortcut "HP Scan" is set up so that you have access to the scan functions. When you start the program, you have multiple scan scenarios to choose from, which can be adjusted according to individual needs in addition. The machine scans documents from the ADF as searchable PDF to a resolution of 300 dpi, which is sufficient. You can also adjust the advanced settings under a slider in favor of quality, which of course also increases the file size. Scanning from flatbed contrast allows full resolution.
You can specify the output format on the Scan menu on the PC (useful to scan small documents in A4 PDF's) and the directory where the file should be stored. In addition, one can determine whether each individual PDF files or a single PDF file to be generated from a paper stack which is scanned over the document feeder. The settings are retained until the respective further amendment. Initiated to the scanning process on the touch panel from the printer, the settings on your computer are also valid for this depending on the selected scan scenarios. The scanning and processing on the PC takes, depending on how much the individual page describes approximately 5 to 10 seconds. Important: A scan can be started on the printer only after the previous one is completed, ie the PDF file was created. Otherwise, you get the printer (and your PC) after a few seconds an error message and have to start again.
The printer is out orginäres, mechanical duplex ADF. One has for scanning, as described above, select whether more pages are assembled into a single PDF file. If one scans from the printer, so the machine will ask in the case of scanning from the flatbed after each page if there are more to follow. Then you have a few seconds to turn the tide and continue to scan, after which, depending on the preferences sided or multi-page PDF files are created on PC. Leaving too much time to elapse, then the printer exits the scanning process automatically.
UPDATE: After the software update the last available configuration options have been expanded to scan. Scanning double-sided pages now works much easier. If we choose from the automatic document feeder, and also duplex for originals to be scanned, then the machine will scan out the front sides of the stack, then you will be prompted to turn the pile and reinserting it into the document feeder, and then the back pages are scanned. Following the software on the PC automatically adds all pages in a document in the proper order together.
With regard to the properties described above, I am fully satisfied with the device. My expectations have been met. Other functions can I not judge for lack of experience.
