I'd like to not talk about the usual characteristics, because the others are already doing a lot of detail or do not. Soon this: Picture and sound are - in my opinion - on a tube TV super. (The device has yes no HDMI port). Also good, I find that you can adjust the volume with the remote control. This comes in handy especially for me as I have (just without the remote control) to connect a speaker system. Unfortunately, the FB has no number buttons, but I've found that you actually do not really need. Sometimes the drive, however (the next menu eg) a bit noisy when jumping and remains from and to even hang. In the case then helps mostly just restart.

Now for some technical features. On the Philips website is as follows:
All DivX player from Philips have been certified for the DivX Home Theater Profile. You can play files that have been created with different versions of DivX including DivX 6. You must update the software not to enjoy the new DivX 6 functions can, eg. B .:
XSUB' subtitles,
Chapter points,
changing audio tracks,
and the file extension ".DIVX", ". avi"
Your player can play the formats DivX HD, MKV, Q-pel or GMC NOT !!!
I've found that that's not true. The player can even more: He plays namely also DivX files from that have been created with Q-Pel. Quarter Pixel Motion Compensation (often only briefly Qpel, Quarter Pixel or Q-Pel called) is compensation with motion vectors of the accuracy of a quarter pixel in digital video encoding Motion. Qpel is a better prediction of movements and thus produces better image quality and small file sizes. However, "used up" there is more processing power, which is why many DVD players can not play such files precisely. I have tested it with many such files and he has played ALL - even at data rates of about 2.5 MB / s, which is quite a lot for DivX (and what with Q-Pel used especially much 'power' needs.). DivX HD and MKV goes but definitely not - GMC (Global Motion Compensation) I do not know, because it is rarely used, or was not used in my DivX files.

So finally to codefree - circuit:
I have on another website instructions found with which you can turn on the player using the remote control code Free. She also works definitely, since I have already been successfully carried out it in my device. The procedure is as follows:
1. switching on, there may be no media (CD / DVD / USB flash drive) be in it!
2. Use the arrow keys to "Setup" and press "OK" -> Now use the arrow keys to "Preference" (adjustment)
3. If "Preference" is not marked "OK" button, but the chapter buttons (slight left / right diagonal of the Play button) to do the following (!):
Next chapter> |, || Previous Chapter, Previous Chapter |. 4 On the screen now the current region code is (2)
5. Use the arrow keys (this time the over / under the "OK" button) / Up Down Select the desired code (0 for Codefree !!!!)
6. Press "OK" to confirm - that's it !!!

Finally, a small fly in the ointment: The File Browser!
Unfortunately only a limited number of characters appear (There are exactly 10 - and this by scrolling from right to left when you mark the file and you will notice as accurate 20 characters). What is even more painful, however, that the files are not in alphabetical order, but after the date of Aufspielens to the media (USB flash drive). I write this not consciously "Aufspieldatum" because I have tried to get around this character. I have modified on the PC using a tool the creation date and all other possible dates for all the files on the stick and unified and thought that the player must now forced them alphabetically. But nothing there: There still remains the old order: What was it first, also appears as the first. Funny. But I have read that this should be a characteristic of all Philips models. I've already told these two Philips also flaws, but if the are really willing to work on it remains questionable.
Addendum 13.10.2011:
For the sorting problem there is but one solution: The small but fine program "Foldersort" (just Google Enter) you can leave all the files from a USB stick or external hard drive alphabetically on PC. This works for all files and folders (incl. Subfolders). The resulting sequence is then also so taken over by Philips DVD player (Problem solved: 0)

Finally, my conclusion:
I am still convinced of the device and the price-performance ratio is super. I can only recommend the player: he gets from me 5 stars !!!!
