The small inconspicuous Wireless Router Wins certainly no design awards but versatility and adaptability of this little wireless router is still very significant in this price. Through which one can install its own system, for example, open-wrt.
The router was purchased to build a WiFi network 2, in the 2.4 GHz spectrum. As an alternative to the provisioned of the Fritz box 5GHz WLAN.
This requires that the TP-Link (not WAN / DSL) are connected to the Fritz box via LAN. DHCP continues to be administered by the Fritz box. (This is not a repeater configuration, in which the TP-Link would log on to the Fritz box WLAN)
Since many older WLAN enabled devices still do not support 5GHz WLAN, we needed a 2. WLAN network for older devices because our FritzBox 3370 could not build a dual WiFi. Our 5GHz network is used especially for VOD, game streaming, screen mirroring, for example, of the FireTV and our new iOS and Andriod devices. The 2.4GHz network represents our older WLAN devices available, including wireless printers, older Android devices, etc ...
So we have the TP-Link brought it.
- Delivered, unpacked, Fritz box off (so that for this period no IPs via DHCP distributed) and TP-L to a laptop connected via Ethernet / LAN.
- Automatically obtain the IP address of TP-Link and logged in to the user interface. (On the back of the router is the IP indicated)
- Under DHCP> - DHCP Settings, DHCP turned off, so that the TP-Link's IP no awards in the net.
- Default Gateway entered the Fritz box.
- In Network> LAN> Router TP-Link has a fixed IP from the DHCP address space to manage the Fritzbox
- Under Wireless> Wireless Setting the assign the name that appears in the WLAN network (SSID).
- Under Wireless> Wireless Security is a password assigned, which is required to log on to the WLAN.
- In the TP-Link with FritzBox Lan connected via LAN, started Fritzbox again
And there you go :) on the older 2.4GHz devices now looking for the new SSID and connect :)
A similar configuration we have made with my father. To this end, we have connected via powerline network adapter from AC power to TP-Link in the basement with the Fritz box, which also feeds your signal to a Powerline network adapter, sodas the basement is now illuminated with WLAN on the TP-Link. Advantage is compared to a repeater that the signal is not attenuated in the TP-Link depends on WLAN and only the weak wireless signal of the Fritz box on the TP-Link is passed. So the Ethernet signal is provided to the TP-Link, via connected to the Fritzbox Powerline Lan at full strength available.
