The Lepai has indeed some of our competitors, which I see here times.
Scythe Kama Bay Amp Mini Pro (SDAR35-2000) black
I have since the model SDA1100 used for comparison. This model is no longer available but there is a newer model SDAR35-2000 which is constructed with better performance data about the same. The price is with included power supply at about 55. The chipset of these models is not vonTripath
SMSL Digital amplifier Hi Fi Amplifier SA-S3 Black 2x25W TA2021BAuto amp with 14V 3A power supply
An amplifier with Tripath chipset is available with and without power supply. With a good power supply, it costs about 60 seconds.
The Sound:
Here there is not much to write. All 3 amplifiers are very neutral and my copies noise or hum is not. The Lepai is the only model a tone control stage, which can also be bridged. In the blind test, I would probably have problems that distinguish three.
Housing quality:
Here is the most beautiful of the SMSL three, made entirely with a housing made of anodized aluminum.
The Scythe is made of a metal housing (which has the dimensions of 3.5 "floppy housing and can be installed in a PC) with an aluminum front panel. Also, not ugly.
By contrast, the Lepai looks a bit worse processed. The extruded aluminum box has front and rear sheet metal lid. The plastic chrome knobs seem a bit toy way for European eyes. Unlike the other two amplifiers he comes without rubber feet, so that is the aluminum housing directly on the furniture. A few felt pads or rubber feet should still spendieren to avoid scratches on the furniture.
All three devices are trying to compete with Aufmersamkeit arrangements of blue and / or red LEDs in operation. Matter of taste.
Connections:
The SMSL and Scythe offer 4mm banana sockets with Schraubklemmfunktion for the speakers. The Scythe has a slight advantage because the sockets are larger and further apart.
The Lepai comes with spring clips that have no great holding power. About 1,5mm² speaker cables are as difficult to process (but honestly no larger cross-sections are needed for 20W maximum power).
As input jacks Chich ports are available on all devices, the Scythe SDAR35-2000 and Lepai also have 3.5mm line-in jacks, but which simply are parallel to the RCA inputs and can not be switched separately.
Power Supply:
The Scythe brings the best power supply, laptop-style with enough power (12V3A when SDA1100).
When Lepai a rather bulky power adapter must rich with Chinese plug and 12V / 2A. However, a Euro adapter was there.
The SMSL had no power supply in my version.
All three amplifiers can be the way to operate with the same power supply because they have the same voltage and plug size.
Scope of supply:
When supplied with the Scythe can score. Besides adapter cables and slot brackets for connecting the PC even jack-RCA adapter and an RCA cable are included. Even 2x2m speaker cables with soldered ends with it (though very delicate cross sections 0,5mm² I guess).
The other two amplifiers come without an adapter cable.
Conclusion:
It's hard to say which amplifier provides the most for your money.
Depending on the application each have its advantages.
And wrong to do with any thing (the damage is anyway due to the low price never high).
Technically sound are all good.
Anyone who wants to can see in my reviews of the Scythe SDAR2100 and SMSL SA-S3.
As Speaker of the three amplifiers I can recommend for little money the Scythe Kro Craft Speaker.
Then you have a surprisingly good stereo system for around 100 persons.
