The HooToo 4-in-1 Portable Wireless Router is supplied in a very small package. The first indication of the high portability of the device!
It comes with the HooToo, a Micro-USB cable for power supply and an illustrated quick start guide in English and French is. A German manual is missing completely, even on the Internet, I was not able to find this. The manufacturer should urgently rectify! But for me that was not a problem, not everyone comes with the knowledge of foreign languages to such devices easy to operate.
From the size of HooToo roughly equivalent to half a pack of cigarettes, so fits easily into any travel / pocket. The device is really lightweight. Prima!
The power supply is unusual, there is no network adapter but only a micro-USB cable. That makes sense ecologically safe but precisely here, I find it somewhat incongruous. Not everyone has freely to operate a USB port to the device and designed for continuous operation as an access point, a network adapter would have been useful.
The connection to my wired network, ie AVM Fritz box 7270 with telecom DSL worked perfectly.
After about 25 seconds, a Wi-Fi network was immediately available.
The transmission power is relatively good, I have a floor in the home is still very good reception despite concrete ceilings. Over two floors the reception is just about acceptable.
An existing device from another manufacturer has not accomplished.
In the browser-based menu interface to get of course only if one has connected over WLAN with the HooToo. The login data are thankfully on the underside of the unit. Please do not try to access from your PC connected to the LAN on the unit with the said IP. This does not work so easily without extensive interventions in the Windows network. So better sign eg per tablet or smartphone in the HooToo WLAN, said IP entered in the browser and enter on the logon screen then at login name admin without a password (default setting).
The menu is surprisingly extensive designed and very well translated into German (by selecting the language in System Preferences). Here I was very pleasantly surprised, because I know many here regularly patzen manufacturer.
I have appended for your reference images of the user interface above in the product description.
Now briefly about the features
WLAN access point: Perfect!
The pure compound to an existing wired network (as it probably 95% of users) is not a problem. Either connect directly via LAN cable to the DSL router or via connected switches and the HooToo built after setting the wireless data to my needs (password, SSID, etc.) its own Wi-Fi on. In this is all my equipment could easily sign.
WLAN router: Ditto, even a DDNS access is theoretically possible. Extensive configuration options such as PPPoE / Static / Dynamic are available.
Bridge:
My FritzBox WLAN has been detected and therefore new spanned WLAN can be reached 2 floors down finally.
NAS: Very interesting additional feature that the HooToo clearly distinguished from competitors.
The USB port the connected storage media can be made available on the wireless network, because the user interface is a file explorer, which dominates all necessary file operations. That works well. The app TripMate is well suited to. It stands for all major operating system available (Windows, IOS, Android).
One should not expect a full-fledged NAS from HooToo but, for fast file exchange in the team, it is sufficient in any case.
What I have noticed?
- The auto-generated WiFi network is secured in the standard (WAP2 / PSK). Exemplary!
- A firmware update to the latest version 18er I have also carried out. Went smoothly but then the wireless data were reset to default as well as some additional data (eg date). Something ugly.
My conclusion for the HooToo HT-TM02 falls almost entirely positive. The hardware has completely convinced me. The configuration interface is well translated in German and a help function is integrated. Only the lack of German Short Manual discovers something sour. I would give this product 5 stars but still happy because I find the product design approach is very innovative and the wireless transmit power for the size really is surprisingly good.
At the manufacturer's my urgent request to provide a German manual for download.
Not every member is so versed overcome technically in this area always existing installation hurdles without guidance.
If this review has assisted in their decision, I would be happy with a click on "vote". Thank you!
