[Review] Sony SmartWatch (getestest with Samsung Galaxy Note)

Sony SmartWatch Handy Clock for Smartphone (Bluetooth 3.0, Android 2.1) (Electronics)

Customer Review

Preface: After I saw the first photos to the device, I was hoping for will soon be available. It seemed like a good extension to my Samsung Galaxy Note to be. I often use my smartphone as a music player and find it increasingly disturbing that the need to bring equipment out of his pocket to make a song more or Volume down / up. Also read the SMS you need the device allegedly no longer having to take out of his pocket. These were a couple of nice features that have moved me finally to give the clock time a chance.

On 28.2, I had ordered them and last weekend she came to me. So here is a brief overview of the strengths and weaknesses of gimmicks.

Packing & Delivery:

The clock comes in a nice red / white packaging. As the clock is fixed inside the packaging, defies human logic. One need necessarily a knife or scissors. Best are brought out even a second person to be sure that you do not scratch the clock when cut from the plastic.

Supplied with the Sony SmartWatch, a black rubber bracelet, a charging cable (USB on special plug), an adapter the clock to other bracelets to fix and a handful of manuals in different languages.

Processing & Design:

On both points, I have nothing to complain about. I can find no gaps or sharp edges. The clock also acts reasonably robust. According to the description they should be protected even splash water and dust. After washing hands she has already gotten a few splashes, but it works of course.

The clock acts as a unified whole. The clock is loaded under the clip with the supplied cable and has otherwise only over a button on the right side. This is the on / off switch.

To the design can be noted in passing that the display could have been larger or make the black border is less. Nevertheless, the clock works on the wrist rather chic. The silver border, they also can look classy.

The clock is very easy and does not bother to wear.

Display:

Now we come to the interesting part so slowly my review. First, let me state that my clock is likely to have a faulty screen. It has a rough blue tint and a large drop in brightness at the left side, I can not see in other videos and pictures. However, as this further will not affect the function, I will bring this test to end.

For the size of the clock, I feel the display as a sufficiently sharp. If you go get close, of course you can see the pixels, in normal use, it seems, however sharp. Brightness and contrast can not be adjusted. In direct sunlight, which falls very difficult to read the display.

The screen responds to entries quite reliable. Both single, as well as dual-touch. Whether multi-touch is possible, I can not test because there is no first, second and applications, the user interface is too small. Unfortunately, the display is not as fat repellent, as the current smartphones. One sees virtually every touch.

However, a medium-sized mess I feel the promises on the packaging. The images of the display coincide neither in brightness, even in focus with reality. After all, is at the bottom of the packaging that the pictures are simulated. Cold comfort.

Signal:

The clock receives the Bluetooth signal reliably. Once the two devices are paired, they can be found within seconds. If no walls or doors between the clock and the smartphone is, the range is 10 meters high. If a wall is between them, then the reception already goes to 5 meters lost and the clock begins to vibrate at.

Furnishings:

The device turns out to be simple, just follow the Quick Start Guide. It invites from the PlayStore LiveWare Manager and the SmartWatch application and activated on his smartphone Bluetooth. If you switch now the clock, place the smartphone and this with a few clicks can pair the devices. (For me, the clock has subsequently brought first to the latest version.)

Now you can download and install the desired applications via LiveWare Manager. On the clock nothing is pre-installed.

Operation:

Vorneweg that is SmartWatch without Bluetooth signal not smart and can not even be used as a clock. It shows no signal only 0: at 00h.

Operation is intuitive. By clicking you get deeper into the menu or activate the desired option. As you know it from a smartphone. If you want to close an application, you tap with two fingers on the clock. That from time to time does not work and two fingers are detected as a. To get around this, you can better use a pinch-to-zoom gesture that has the same effect, but it works more reliably.

To change the applications that you just wipe your finger from left to right or vice versa. Up and down is possible, but then switch between the installed apps and the active apps.
A small image helps to illustrate the menu structure:

Applications:

If you run the LiveView Manager on your smartphone, receive my an overview of the recommended and installed apps. In addition, there is a button that leads to compatible applications in PlayStore.

Now comes a little feedback on the available and tested apps. I have the clock is not very long and many Apps overlap in their functions. If I write something wrong, I apologize for this inconvenience and to improve myself.

News
- Opens an active application, the new calls / SMS and, if installed, Twitter and Facebook messages indicating.

Music Player
- Serves the music player of your smartphone. The clock can start the player as well as the smartphone starts the clock application. Possible actions are volume up / down, next / back. With the clock it is not possible to switch between different albums. Whether that is so or generally located at the junction with the Galaxy Note, I can not say. Otherwise the app works as expected. If you put in front of the listening a playlist together, or simply listen to everything on Shuffle, to handle the problem with the albums change.

Facebook
- With the application you can scroll through the status messages to his contacts. Also a limited reaction is possible. One can let the Post on the phone, select "like" it directly from the clock from (
Text Messages
- Shows SMS in incoming order. You can leave the SMS in mobile display a predefined message ala Send "Call me" or other calls. But of course, the mobile phone is used. At first I thought that the SMS Send does not work because I did not have the skillful SMS over on the phone. But since then, two people have to call back directly me, but then I was satisfied.

Call Management
- Displays calls. About the clock allows the call mute and reject. Can not assume. The clock will vibrate when a call. During a call you can arrange the earpiece volume and the clock displays, with whom you talk. Works as it should.

Telephone directory
- The own contacts on the clock display. Either only favorites or all entries. Can be set in the LiveView Manager. Displays on the clock names and numbers. By clicking the contact can call. Runs great on my Samsung.

Calendar reminder
- Displays the calendar for the current day on the clock. Works on the note.

Search phone
- "Call" on the phone. It rings and vibrates. You can set whether the normal ringtone or a special to be played. Works flawlessly.

Weather
- Displays the weather and a 3 day on Preview. I can not do anything with the app, because you can always adjust only one place. The place is fixed and must be changed in Live View Manager only. Unfortunately, can not reveal the current location is.

Missed Call
- Lists missed calls with date, name and number. Possible actions are: to display the phone call and send predefined SMS. Fully functional.

VFinder
- The first app that does not come directly from Sony. It activates the camera on the phone and sends the current image on the clock. Clicking on the clock, to an image to be made. Unfortunately, this does not work for me. But in the app description also states that it has only been tested with Sony.

Conclusion:

The conclusion should be borne in mind that it is only a first impression and it is seeking a short feature list. Still I can not comment on battery life or other things. If you have this in mind, I can say that my Sony SmartWatch but liked a lot.

She wears comfortable, looks good and does exactly what it should. Will they lodge a complaint but in the next few days because of the damage display.

If it heraustellt that the clock really broken, battery life is satisfactory and the clock continues to function reliably, then I would give the full 5 stars.

Addendum: Unfortunately I can not publish photos here. Under the following link you find my test images: (...)

Supplement 11:04:

I have the clock back to a solid two days in use and have to correct something my conclusion.

First I have to go in the sun again on the display and its readability. It is in fact not exist. Even if you want shade by hand, it is almost impossible. While driving we will see just who is calling, in my opinion, is not possible without jeopardizing the road because you somehow have to take the clock out of the sun. I just go strongly believes that it is up to my display defect and the associated low brightness of my clock. If the new and so delivers a poor performance, I would deduct a star in my Amazon review.

Something positive there is to say about the battery. After 24 hours permant Bluetooth noisy display, the battery is still more than half. My Galaxy Note do not seem to almost nothing and the display tells me after 24 hours 80% when Edge and Bluetooth, but otherwise almost any other activity.
