Who hinblättert over 100 for a flashlight, can expect appropriate performance and quality. He will not be disappointed at the ThruNite Lynx extent.
The Lynx is delivered in a small plastic case that houses beside the lamp following accessories:
- Belt holster made of nylon with Velcro
- 18650 protected lithium-ion battery
- Screw-on diffuser for uniform floodlighting
- Rattling plastic tube so that thinner CR123A batteries in the lamp
- Wrist strap (lanyard) with snap hook
- Manual (eng.) And warranty card
The supplied battery pack is fully charged, so that the lamp is ready for use. It is yet an additional charger suitable for Li-Io batteries required (rated voltage 3,6-4,2V). Although the supplied battery has a built-in protection circuit against deep discharge. One should the battery life for the sake but to charge the battery immediately when the lamp lights up noticeably darker in the highest level. Incidentally, other protected (recommended) and unprotected 18650 can be used. Alternatively, the lamp also works with 2x CR123A (3V), should in the longer operating at full brightness but are running on battery. The batteries namely provide durable enough power and the duration is shorter. Caution: Operation with 2x 16340 Li-Io batteries is not permitted and could destroy the electronics of the lamp. In any case, make these small batteries in the lamp anyway does not make sense because they provide only a short burn time and higher voltage (series connection) does not lead to higher brightness.
The body of the lamp is very well made and incredibly robust. The battery tube is made in considerable material thickness, the head of the lamp is protected by a screwed stainless steel crown against shocks. This crown can be easily exchangeable with the supplied diffuser. The Lynx has fallen quite large for its power class, for example, alternative products such as Eagletac TX25C2 or the Olight M22 are a bit shorter. The mounted and very stable attachment clip can be tools and scratch-free disassemble. The material of the holster is down a bit thin, which makes it rather only protects against scratches as against shocks. A class of its own is the very heavy and solid switch to the end cap. About the end cap, the lamp is completely operated, the operation is easier than you will perhaps read below:
The cap is the smooth-running pressure switch. The switch cap itself can be rotated to 4 positions and so set before switching on the lamp to the desired brightness or function.
1) position to the left: fixed at full throttle with light moment. This means that the light is only as long as the button is pressed.
2) to the right: positions 2-4 are freely programmable and function like a normal on / off switch. Ie briefly press one, press again briefly again. If you hold in these positions the switch is pressed, the lamp dims up and down. When you release the button at the desired location, the light level is stored. You can configure the lamp so at will and at any time to reprogram again.
By setting option you can decide how many light modes are obtained. From 1 to 4 different levels, everything is possible.
Light Output:
The Lynx, the manufacturer has used a current LED type CREE XM-L2 U2. Together with the smooth highly polished reflector lamp lights with cold white but relatively pleasant light. The cone of light and the light distribution has no cause for complaint. Although smooth reflector nowhere disturbances in light picture can be seen. Absolutely succeeded.
If you can do without the stainless steel crown, you should remove them. You caused by reflections a narrow bright ring outside the light cone and the radiation somewhat constricted. Without the ring, the luminous image is absolutely spotless. With screwed-diffuser the light is scattered evenly and widely, which fits perfectly for use at close range and indoors. Without diffuser cone of light has a relatively concentrated spot, with the results in a good range.
By programmability to light levels of any gradation can be realized. The darkest level lies so low (Moonlight / Firefly) that either a continuous burn time of several weeks or glare-free light with preservation of light / dark adaptation is possible. The brightest light level is the manufacturer with 1,000 lumens, in practical operation I have come in rather own measurements to 900 lumens. With this performance and the luminescent behavior this lamp should actually provide enough light in any situation. Those who believed in the past, Maglite is the measure of all things, will experience with this modern high-performance lamp be bright wonder.
At what maximum power, the lamp is capable of depends on the battery charge status. Compared with other lamps, the Lynx the maximum brightness keeps really excellent at a constant level. This is true for a fully charged battery (~ 4,22V) to about down to ~ 3.8V. Apparently a kind of protective circuit against overheating is installed for example, which after several minutes reduces the maximum light level (depending on battery level) in an appreciable level to perhaps 20%. This down-regulation can be bypassed when the lamp off and on again briefly. At low battery level, the light level is reduced again by one step. This is probably the battery-protection and as Hinwweis that soon the battery should be recharged.
