Update June 2012: A demo for the game is now also available and taking botanicula.net!
The Czech developer Amanita Design of stay faithful to their style and shape it further. Who, for example, games like SAMOROST liked (Samorost 1 can be on the side Amanita incidentally try online), which should appreciate this new colorful joyous Game. A parent plotline there would be - we accompany our cute little gear on a "quest" to put a giant spider the craft, which ensures in this wonderful world for some disquiet - but probably would Botanicula itself quite well entertained without the simple story. Our path to the goal leads in the game about some detours, so you between ever can forget the nasty big spider and their offspring.
Right and wrong are in this game design really foreign words, "trying out" rather the central currency. Whether our witty Tools now nozzle to the right, left, up, down / creep ... anyway ... somehow we reach our destination. This game can be great way to play, and yet it is more than a "casual game". Not everything that is anzuklickbar is essentially necessary for progress in the game. It is quite possible that during the first pass something funny about looks. Along the way is a lot to discover and the world looks pretty alive to me. If you drive the mouse over some Planzen, eg offset this move, or bring them to growth. In addition, are collected in the course of the game, among others maps (how much you missed the game, you realize at the end also easy on the basis of collected cards). The can view at any time. Then, for example, have so far seen experienced creatures, already belonged visual stories, etc. It may perhaps be interesting to go over the example with a child or even just once even refresh the memory so ...
CONCLUSION: Botanicula is definitely not your typical adventure game with challenging puzzles and strong story embossing. I want to again emphasize. As Adventure I can not fully recommend it as seen - although I know that it is very like some adventure fans. Who could so far not make friends with SAMOROST, even with Machinarium, should probably leave it alone. If you liked this game, however, could be excellently served (if one do not mind the lack of "real" mystery)! With Botanicula provides us Amanita Design an intuitive interactive trip through a most remarkable, childlike fantasy world and indeed for young and old. Nice!!!
