Printing with the default settings (plain) delivers beautiful prints with no significant ink consumption. The copy default seems a bit light, as long as the back of the scanned sheet is labeled, a white sheet to should be placed so that the font of the rear side is not visible on the copy, otherwise you have since partially what's inside.
The printing with photo paper delivers the best settings and photo really beautiful pictures, comparable to print out professional photo development stations as they can be found in drugstores and electronics markets. When setting the fine can be seen here distinct lines, which this is not suitable for photos.
The pressure adjustment is standard on "natural" what something appears bright (still flawless photos, do not misunderstand). The pressure setting "lively" carries more color, whereby the images get more luminosity, but also darker.
Having 3 A4 pages of plain paper printed with fine (2 course, 1 lively), 15 pages of text and 2 copies with about 1/4 image and the rest of the text, I have 8 pictures (10x15) printed in the best setting and lively and then the ink consumption checked (on the PC you can forget about this ad completely, which is so imprecise that it does not help) and Bini doing scared enormously. Well, show the 5 photos blue about 40% of the area sky, but that after the blue Tintenbehäler has decreased, according to display on the printer to about 20-25%, is simply outrageous as far as the ink consumption.
To print photos in 10x15 cm, a manual "remodeling" of the paper tray is necessary. Remodeling is perhaps too high settled, you must press a slide and slide the upper part of the paper tray in the photo paper comes in, forward. If an attempt is then normal to print A4 again, you get an error message - so you have to build again until back before you can resume printing. That was "before pros" printer, a Canon Pixma IP3000 achieved in my much more comfortable. The photo paper in the Brother One should also not be left in the tray as it is not in the device there, which light falls on the photo paper, resulting in the passage of time to yellowing - then you can throw away the photos ...
Problems with constant cleaning operations as others have described, I have not. Possibly have no date setting made (because the cleaning orient mutatis mutandis lt. manual)?
Apparently Brother is not to be laid in a position the slot in the printer to the outside, but expected the buyer to transfer the desired cable manually in the housing interior. To this end, the device has to be opened, then reveal the connections (USB / LAN), which must then be routed through a "conduit" to the outside. Depending on where one in previous printers had the connections, so up to 60 cm longer cable length is required. Perhaps one of the reasons why it is not necessary Brother keeps cable settle here ...
I did not test it because I wanted to replace an existing network printer, the network cable had thus been laid and saw no reason to bring the out of the cable duct behind the furniture out the WLAN function.
The included ink cartridges have only a pressure range of about 65% according to the description. That is commercially refilled, are designed to provide up to 50% more coverage compared well. I guess now time you print a lot of photos in the highest quality and vibrant colors, the ink for maybe 60 or 70 photos should be enough (for me was blue just been stressed by the sky, so I suppose with uniform coverage coming this couple More pages out). Mind you not A4, but 10x15 cm photos !!!
The noise when gewähnungsbedürftig is, since the ink is transported via a conduit system of the cartridges to the print head, resulting in a kind of "sucking". A previously used HP Business Inkjet 1200n has the same technique here, however, was nothing to hear. (Which may be due to the already mentioned, felt inferior quality Brother again)
My conclusion so far:
Positives:
+ Reasonable price
+ Individual ink tanks
+ Cartridges without chips (now unfortunately a rarity)
+ Very nice photo quality
+ Theoretically long period of 3 years, which also includes the print head (theoretically because the original cartridges with ink usage can not buy without getting arm, so you should possibly cancel the then almost empty original cartridge, for just in case)
Negatives:
- Outrageously high ink consumption
- Not very valuable
- Cumbersome cabling
- Loss of warranty with the use of non-original cartridges (one will inevitably resort to cheap cartridges or CISS, as long as you also once a year wants to print the vacation photos and otherwise indeed the year something else printed)
Print noise when -
- Print speed is slow
- Conversion and position of the paper tray
Conclusion:
For the price, there are some models from Brother, who has more space, should pick up the almost same price MFC-5890CN, the one at that dominated the print on A3.
Who do not mind the high Tintenverbauch and can live with the worst case of a dispute about the warranty, can certainly access.
I am as you can see, despite the negative points with the machine satisfied (not thrilled but pleased).
