Unpacking

Supplied with a battery and a Micro-USB power adapter included with the camera 1A next course. Furthermore - what am very surprised - a headset and a short manual. When I took the camera for the first time in the hand, I thought: Wow, quite large and heavy. I had / imagined something smaller lighter, but the weight makes the camera seem somehow valent.
Commissioning
==========
Battery is being used, can fully load, Micro SD and Micro-SIM used and there you go ... Because the software of the camera is based on Android, first a device which is generally known from Android smartphones; Here it makes sense that you have a Google Account or creates one, can the device but without set.
After the initial setup, the camera in my opinion starts enough fast enough. By pressing the release button they keep coming quickly in the camera application back and can take pictures. The entire setup process went quickly and was easily equip.
Software
==========
For me the very great advantage of this camera the many Konnektierungsmöglichkeiten and flexible software are (currently Android 4.1.2). The result is a camera with a complete smartphone, of course, the main focus is on the photograph. You can do everything you can with a smartphone otherwise with the device in principle: write SMS, surf the Internet, install apps from the Google Play Goals, games, alarm clock, calculator, navigation hear with appropriate software, music, .. easy. insanely flexible. Even a vibration alarm has the part.
What is very charming for me, is the ability to upload images right after shooting via WLAN or UMTS to a data storage on the Internet. By default, you can set this to Dropbox, but I'm an IT person there near cautious and have a private home NAS from Synology me set up to which the photos will be synchronized via Synology app immediately after shooting. I am on vacation, the images can be viewed directly from the folks back home. In addition, can break the camera or be stolen, go without me the pictures lost - really smart for me.
Besides Standardkamerapp can load more, certainly also better from the PlayStore. But the Standardapp works very well and you have plenty of opportunities to edit the images later. Through the touch screen makes it even much more fun and meaningful than that of most other compact cameras would be possible. I have caught me, how do I make more from the photos as it was / is in the normal compact camera case.
Appearance

The camera takes passable photos. For me as a holiday Knipse always sufficient and comparable to other compact (I have a Canon SX230). Toll I think the zoom range of 21x. What this somewhat bothers me is the fact that the Zoom is only relatively coarse-adjustable using the control dial, which in everyday life but should not interfere. Some noise is of course apparent in darker scenes, but I had imagined the worse. The photosensitivity is for me fine. For interiors there are also additionally the touch of a button manually pop-up flash.
For most situations is likely to be well equipped with the camera. Should it be of better quality, I reach for SLR (Canon EOS 1Ds - of course no comparison), which is due to the weight but not everywhere would suffer with.
Video recording in FullHD have with the Galaxy Camera, a good quality, especially the slow motion ability to 120f / s is a nice feature, but here at a reduced resolution.
Accumulator

Well, the problems / bottlenecks of today's technology devices are mostly yes the batteries. Here I have to say that the Galaxy Camera Battery also is not great, but you can already take some pictures and record video before it's empty. Many write that you have bought a second battery and an additional charger - that is a possibility. Another, better for me is an external battery that is known also from smartphones ago. Since the camera is loaded via Micro-USB with 5V, you can connect almost any external battery. Between every now and appended or just when the internal battery is dead, you get so good on the rounds. For me, even better than my Canon compact when you have to constantly rumfuchteln with two batteries and charger.
Samsung has thought along but also here and has many battery-saving opportunities that go beyond smart phones. So can be set so that when the display is off, the network connections (WLAN, Bluetooth, UMTS) are separated. Furthermore, one can for a time (one hour is for me a good compromise) set, after which the phone is in a "deep sleep". Turning needs then although a few seconds longer, but conserves battery power.
Conclusion
==========
I think the camera for me is still great and my expectations were fully met. The advantages clearly outweigh and since I no longer had to pay as for other compact digital cameras, it was an easy decision. Priced at currently about 350 I would, however, exactly think about it, because other comparable cameras are cheaper by the image quality.
