1) processing / Appearance
+ Very flat (currently thinnest smartphone on the market)
+ Class Design
+ High-quality workmanship
+ Is good (better than the Desire) in hand
+ Should be suitably light, but still feels very high quality at
+ Micro-USB connector is protected by a cover
-Micro-USB port for charging and data transfer is at the top
Although -Plastik cover back looks good, but could be easily scratched (to prove the long-term test)
2) Operation
+ Softkeys respond safely and without delay, are well lit (by pressing the icons turn blue, looks very good)
+ Volume buttons on the left side is easy to operate
+ Special "G" button for operation d. Phones by gesture (eg G-key + shaking for answering a call)
3) Display
+ Brightness is excellent, the display is also perfectly legible in direct sunlight (at full brightness setting - the Desire (AMOLED) is in the sun hardly what to recognize).
+ Resolution fits perfectly to the 4 inches diagonally - similar no pixels recognizable, all razor sharp
Colors are not as "loud" as the HTC Desire
4) Software
For LG's proprietary surface I can not say much because I have installed immediately the Launcher 7 from the Market unfortunately. At first glance, however, the surface looked almost exactly like Touchwiz by Samsung, so everything should be okay.
+ Android version is 2.2 Froyo and thus relatively current, update to 2.3 Gingerbread coming
+ LG has adapted most Android apps useful:
+ Clock alarm clock also offers stopwatch and countdown function
+ Alarm Clock can be optionally turned off only a small "brainteaser"
+ SMS app visually adjusted by using balloons ala iPhone - looks great
+ Lock screen are called optically much better than the standard Android, unread SMS and missed calls directly
+ Important radio ions such as WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, Sync or mobile internet can be activated directly via a menu in the status bar on / off
+ Sound Control directly in the status bar
+ No software hangers etc. - Everything goes quickly and without delay
Software keyboard visually failed my recommendation: install SwiftKey from the Market
-Many Buttons and icons are "sucked round" for my taste too much (ala iPhone)
-very much superfluous apps installed (including but any amount of 1 & 1, because you can not blame LG)
5) Camera
+ Front (2 megapixel) and rear camera (5 megapixels)
+ Images are sharp with two cams
+ Flash on the back working fine
+ Video quality is very good (Full HD, 720p: 1280x720px)
6) Network
Since there is not much to say - everything is on board (WLAN, HSDPA, Bluetooth). With my router but I had briefly small problems with the WLAN connection, could be solved by setting the router (the other wireless channel).
-Unfortunately There is no 4G Internet
7) Battery
Whether at the end of the day 40, 50 or 60% battery capacity is still there, ultimately does not matter. Anyone who so At length a smartphone, needs to be aware that the unit every night belongs to the power supply - regardless whether HTC, Samsung or Apple is on it. Those who do not want to, buys most a Nokia 6300th
8) Others
Unfortunately, there is no notification LED as the Desire. To see if new SMS / emails, etc. there are, so always the screen needs to be activated. But it's not tragic.
The included 2GB Micro SD card is not enough for most users out certainly.
So far there is no root for the P970, hence no custom ROMs. Its sister model, P990 Optimus Speed but has already Root and Roms, insofar that is surely only a matter of time for the Optimus Black.
UPDATE: I now root and could thereby remove the unnecessary apps.
9) Conclusion
The Optimus Black is an excellent smartphone. Although there is no dual-core processor, but a great display and a great design. The performance of the processor is sufficient for the usual games from the Android Market and all everyday tasks. I am absolutely delighted with this mobile phone and may find no defects except for one two little things. Hence my strong buy recommendation for the LG Optimus Black.
One thing I must also honestly say it had the phone not "free" given the contract, I had not even bought. Compared to the upcoming dual-core smartphones from Samsung and HTC can I find the current price of unreasonably high.
