Switch to German version, I must confess that I always had little trouble with the spelling, but there are quite a lot of biological technical terms.
Prof. McConnell writes in layman's terms about the physical relationships that occur in the body when emotions such as anger, happiness, fear.
They substantiated this with examples from their animal behavioral practice and their own dogs. This alone is reason enough to read the book and makes the most of the book from.
But my biggest win of the book was to describe the facial expressions and other body language signals. Each recognize an impending, snarling dog and its mood. I had known the signals of defensive and offensive threat. However, I respect since reading a lot more on the eyes and forehead area. These are vividly reproduced in pictures and words that I never forgot again. The facial expressions of the dog is compared in the photographs with human facial expressions. Somewhat exaggerated effect the facial expressions of people admit. Nevertheless, it does not miss the effect, on the contrary. Although I've read some books about the body language of dogs, I experienced rarely so great wow effect as in this book. Even in books with more and technically better photos and drawings I had never so much aware of what a "Walauge", the pupil size and the position of the eyebrows. Which seemed logical in other books, I now know-what at first I "only" got to, I realize now. Similarly obvious for me were far books like Calming Signals - The calming signals of dogs, the correct posture or the effect of personal space.
Although I knew when my first dog threatened really massive. Now I know what * * that was to see. Festival closed jaw, strong muscular tension, contracted eyebrows, cold gaze fixed etc pp. Never was the difference between me "silent" and "quiet" so clearly aware.
In addition, we learn again much of Luke and the other dogs. And about the pain of loss, which is so poignant represented by Pat McConnell. All the woman writes McConnell in their warm, easy to understand and entertaining way that is exactly my case. Kynologie need not be dry and boring.
Worth mentioning was the rich protean Bibliography (literature tips), which is a treasure trove.
Absolute Leseempfehlung!
