TomTom GO6000 / GO5000 and development of the scheme | 07.17.2014

I was looking for a new Navi and have first decided on the TomTom GO5000, I have not bought this from Amazon because I urgently needed a new. My old Becker has after 4 years it quits and has problems with battery and mains operation especially with the car. New cards I needed then anyway times, so I thought right, but buy yourself a new one.

So TomTom GO5000, the first:

I bought the device directly into an electronics shop and was impressed right from the start. The new software and the great service creates highly told me. I made a test drive from home to work and back. These are just a few kilometers, not worth mentioning. However, I realized while walking to the car with the Navi in ​​hand, the little rattles there. Something inside the Navi's was going on, battery, circuit board, or whatever.
Good So back to the shop and have it Exchanged ... went smoothly.

Now TomTom GO5000, the second:

With the second TomTom first everything looked good, I had it in a hurry on the day and got me in the evening again busy. Updates ran through smoothly and everything seemed fine. When I, the device is disconnected from the PC to the updates (the Navi was yes then not loaded), I 've put myself on the sofa and typed a few address. And what Siche screen ... ??? It flickers without end ... horizontal stripes undulate from top to bottom. I do not only not noticed when it was connected to the PC. So reconnected to see no flicker. After separating you were back. So I am already annoyed .... Well, off Navi and placed in the closet and searched for something to these problems. Was probably an isolated incident ... read got the flickering can go back for the GSM module. However flickers disappears. In this case, not.
The next morning, again made a test drive to work and lo and behold ... no flicker more ... oh I thought SUPER! And rejoiced ... when I arrived, I realized that it then flickered again and it was unusually warm on the back. I wonder if it was not particularly warm. And in the car has also not heated (car is in garage). I 've put myself with TomTom in Verindung and told me (short version) that this unit is faulty. So again driven back to the shop and was a little annoyed. But again, the device was exchanged without difficulty. But this time there were no more 5000 and just got the 6000 taken with an additional cost.

TomTom GO6000, the third .....

This device works now as it should .... it does not get hot and it flickers nothing. It halt ne corner larger and the presentation Like a tick better. At first I thought that would be too big, but actually I find it just right.

Packing:
The packaging of TomTom is well kept and simply. In my opinion might expect less plastic in it and put more on recycled paper or cardboard. Otherwise OK .... Again, nothing extraordinary.

Processing:
The processing of the TomTom GO5000 and GO6000 are very well done. Everything is clean in focus and there is no knartzgeräusche. Everything looks solid and permanently installed. Even the power button has a good pressure point and is well placed.
Perhaps another word for holding ... this is the best holder I've ever seen. The holds absolutely bombproof ... unbelievable, you could at this sucker determined make pull-ups. And the quick assembly of Navis is a dream, no more fumbling or whatever. Simply insert and you're done. The docking station is a microUSB port comes my expectations very well. (Had Becker Z109 back then)

Display:
One of the most important points is of course the screen, since TomTom GO5000 and GO6000 differ significantly from each other. One immediately sees that the resolution on the 6000 is much better. But one does not need glasses and do not look at how it is now the case with mobile phones. The best new feature is that it finally gives a touch operation, as on a Smarthphone. Irregular presses more is needed to make entries. Definitely a big plus! At first glance, the display but acts not anti-reflective, and when driving I thought ... if that goes well times. But it's all super to read and even significantly better than in my old unit. You can read all about clear, even in bright sunshine. The reflections really keep in practice very limited.

Software and service:
Yes what was sworn in here and I can understand it, now the software is Version 13 057 outside where many criticisms have been criticized.

The software is me crashed, or whatever. Everything works extremely well and it is always evolving. What I very much welcome and what is now really become damn rare. At this point, kudos to TomTom! The operation is very simple, however, many new features are quite well hidden, you should therefore always views Watch the new manual to be able to use these also. The Navi is another system for next to nothing. That you can not enter your own POI's, is relatively unimportant to me, but since I speak only for myself. TomTom Traffic is for me one of the geniasten invention at all, even on normal roads slow-moving traffic was reported to me and was really true. Machines are developed by people and people make mistakes just nunmal.

Features:
The equipment is designed not particularly complicated, as I said, no Bluetooth, no picture gallery, no MP3 player. However, the 5000/6000 a GSM module where all current data is transferred. And that really forgive my opinion everything. Personally, I would have also used none of these extras. More importantly there rather Lifetime Map Updates and Lifetime Traffic TomTom. Meanwhile, a voice control has been added, which, however, does not work so well. I have it but not yet tested ausgibig.

Service:
If you have problems, it knows this ... you stand most in many problems in the rain and gets no clear statement. With TomTom I really great experience on the forum and made through the normal RMA. Really, I can only recommend it! I like to turn to time with questions, criticism and suggestions to the manufacturer, but most of these are very unreliable and give only half-baked statements. Therefore, I am very satisfied, because the service you buy with a quasi and should not be neglected.

Final Conclusion: Update!
The TomTom is a great and now in version 13 057 a very sophisticated navigation system. It has little use for gimmicks and is much more to the pure navigation. And that makes it really, really good. The good appearance of navigation and clear announcements are also very well done. The service leaves a not even in the rain. I would buy the Navi despite two failed predecessors again. There are currently no other manufacturer that has in my opinion, the navigation perfected as the TomTom GO5000 / GO6000. Certainly there is always something negative, but there is always a person to plan, how important is the one. There are plenty of alternatives, for this reason I forgive 5 stars for the device. I do not need your own POIs, or BT handsfree, since I have a permanently installed in the car. Currently MapShare updates for the GO's are provided daily, also very welcome.
What I personally like better to TomTom, is the software and regular updates for all Navi's, I had two and a Becker Medion GoPal and find the browser / software solution really good and modern. The only thing I lack is that there is no auto zoom in 2D mode, I hope the coming yet.

It is important to say is: You definitely need to update a brisk Internet, just in the first update will be a lot of data downloaded (about 6GB).

PS:
Many negative reviews I can not understand personally, when it comes to the equipment. I read quite often here and there Something missing. Since I really says only one has not been set to address it and bought blind. Here read it does not meet expectations again and again, because certain functions are not included. About the other negative reviews, I can quite understand refer to the software a few. There was just a lot of problems, but are fixed for the most part and TomTom Updated its equipment almost daily. One more objection wall on cards and System Update. The update itself is large at the beginning of approximately 6GB. This data must first be downloaded and may take several hours to complete, depending on your connection. Anyone who has even updated his smartphone knows how long it can take on, if it is "only" 400MB (approximately 0,4GB). So without an Internet connection running at the TomTom schonmal almost nothing that should be aware of any. Therefore the Zeitramen of about 1-1.5 hours pure installation time is already adequate. Most of the updates are of course the new cards.

Function and performance are up to date with TomTom still in the optimization phase. By many new features and new looks on the cards, the developer of TomTom further optimizations have to make. Currently the Navi's running at the limit of their hardware and further optimized nights firmware update. In addition, the GO6000 by the higher resolution and more than the rendering must GO5000. This does not mean that it or something is crashing, the animations of the 3D view is currently not quite as soft butter, as it was at the beginning. The next update will come!
