The success of the novel may not have been based on its narrative outline, without much originality as the stories that are facing the peculiarity of lives exhausted by the existential dramas abound.
Carefully composed, history proposed by Paolo Giordano is sufficiently well developed to encourage the reader to take an interest in these two solitudes Mattia and Alice through the narration of their lives scattered moments from childhood to age adult. This body consists seems characterized by its polarity and limited affected by complicity (outlined) that does not evolve to the sovereign love.
A feeling prevails in reading this novel: sadness and helplessness permeates its pages lives slag denaturing sentimentality that seems to stammer before burning inexorably.
By using a cold, petrifying style, the author creates an unfathomable distance between the reader and the characters, strengthening the abandonment of these singular lives for a nebula. The lack of psychological depth of the characters alters this empathy that would tend to express them. This impression reinforces the idea that the adultité of these individuals, considered the evolution
(Emotional, sentimental, ...) to adult maturity, borders on the draft as the ability to renew itself, to question themselves, to make informed choices emerged difficult.
This incursion of Paolo Giordano in the literary sphere is quite successful and controlled, noticed by his pages on adolescence and its psychological dimension. Deftly avoiding the melodramatic pitfalls, however this novel left me skeptical in his approach to his protagonists, including Mattia whose passion for mathematics seems to feed the silence in which he wanders.
