I use this receiver now since 4 weeks and was able to convince me of the good reception characteristics. We have our house antenna system changed from a satellite headend, which transposed the satellite signals in DVB-C, but only SD quality, on a Unicable (SCR) distribution, the HD capable. Therefore, was a deciding factor for the Humax HD Nano, the Unicable suitability and here he is exemplary. The receiver is very easy to program accordingly on the basis of detailed instructions and also the carrier frequency can be adjusted manually. I tried to use a cheaper product, but with whom I had great difficulty with the frequency adjustment. In addition, the Humax the reception quality is much better. I've been using the Humax 80% signal strength and signal quality 100%, with the returned Billigteil I was able to realize no good reception. The remote control is large, easy to handle, but I use a Harmony One for my TV set that well cooperates with the Nano. Connection to the TV (an older Samsung 40 "s) via HDMI, since making HD reception really fun. The included HD + card is a welcome Taken gadget and provides for one year access to the private HD channels on Astra. The image is out wheel end, but of course depending on the transmitter (780p at ARD / ZDF HD or 1080i at Sat1 / Pro7) and content. The connection to my 5.1 is done with the opt. Digital output, also works tadelos. Positive are also the small dimensions and I feel the lack of a channel display rather pleasant. The on-screen display on the TV is well thought out and switching on the channel list, preview or EP-guide is very simple and is understood without a manual. Although there is a default, the transmitter, but I prefer their own favorites occupancy by language and genre. This is simple but time consuming possible because each desired transmitter must be moved manually. I would like to see here the possibility of processing on an external PC and uploading the configuration via a USB stick as a useful supplement. The switching times are when you move to another bouquet, already noticeable, partly it is also through the confusing information "... no reception" and then "... encrypted" greatly irritated until then but the selected program appears. Whether this is in direct satellite reception as well, I can not judge, I suspect, however, that the response time by the necessary switching of the carrier frequency at a Unicable system is extended. The delay, however, when it once knows, absolutely bearable. The PVR that TAKES Record on Hard Disk is easily possible via the program guide. I have a small 2.5 "" external HD of 250 GB connected via USB, it works really easy, it's not a special power supply needed. Downside is that used Linux format that makes a reformatting the drive required and the files can not be so easily transferred to a PC. In addition, the files will be something big, so a feature film about 10 to 14 GB. Finding and playing the movies is easily possible via a small menu. I've found no appreciable loss of quality. As but limited in HD + the editing of the transmitters, for example can not be forwarded to shorten commercial breaks. Disturbing is also when the PVR receives, switching to another service seems limited to be possible. My conclusion after 4 weeks of use: Thoroughly recommended for use Unicable, good reception characteristics, easy programming and operation. Affordable access to HD and HD + reception. If you want more features, recording and playback simply must dig deeper into their pocket, that's not a fault of the device.
Supplement New Software
A software update of the Nano HD now also offers Smart TV functions via the Internet. Retrieving particular library content eg ARD and ZDF works very simply and the contents are liquid reproduced, which is of course also from the network dependent. The portal is intuitive to understand and easy to operate with the remote control. However, one should not expect any keyboard / mouse or tablet functionality. With the new free feature, this unit still valent.
