My configuration is as follows:
1x Devolo at the router on the 1st floor, 1 Devologerät in the next room on the 1st floor, 1 Devolo downstairs.
Short info about the adapter generations in my case:
I had initially 3 x 85 Mbit adapters and was only moderately enthusiastic about whether the low transmission rate to approximately actual 4-8 Mbit ie 500 Kbytes / s - 1 Mbyte / s totaled, no matter what the Devolo tool (35 Mbit / 4.3 Mbyte) indicated. Unfortunately no better than wireless and not even TV / video streaming so smoothly was possible for DSL 16000 was quite thin.
So a second test with the 200 Mbit devices, old equipment out new devices in the same box clean. Lo and behold, there were now 1.8 Mbyte / s (14.4 Mbps) to 2.5 Mbyte / s (20 Mbit) actually available depending on socket. This is already better but not state of the art! For small data transfer and streaming MP3 or DSL 16000 but ok.
So now yet again a start with the 500 AV Mini and also with this 500 Mbit wireless kit adapter. In the hope that it still brings something. Same cans, old equipment out and new pure. I now get again about 500-700 kbyte / s more power, so instead of the previous 1.8 Mbyte / s to 1 can now 2.3 Mbyte / s and instead of 2.5 Mbyte / s to 2 can now 3 , 2 Mbyte / s.
It has, therefore, at least minimally worthwhile for me to use the fastest technology, even if these devices are quite expensive. HD streaming I get with my mains but still not back. Unfortunately for all device classes and actually in any case known to me ever the specified device performance has been reached me, no matter what the Devolo Cockpit says (and that was always much higher). Compared to the 200 Mbit class, the performance gain is however disappointing.
About this devolo dLAN 500 AV Wireless:
There really are compared to the previous AV Mini Sets two quite chunky parts. Advantage (at individual outlets) is clearly the integrated electrical socket of the adapter, so you can put it as "firsts" in the box and then connect the other devices. It is supposed to be good for the connection stability when the Devolo act as first device in the socket and only after other devices (which could interfere) are connected. Another big advantage may be in 2.Adapter the integrated WLAN. This works as a simple access point and can be configured via the browser. The connection quality is good, I now have the same wireless speed of the adapter will bear in this room with me over power lines, or about 2.5 Mbytes / s. About 3 knobs can be on 2 Adapter Wi-Fi on / off and enable encryption.
Conclusion:
Powerlan replaced on really easily which otherwise subsequent wiring in homes / flats or bypasses the low range of the known slow 54 Mbit / SW LAN. Many users would also no wireless security reasons inserting. For all those who wants it is a possible alternative and generally well functional. So clearly, if someone today opts for Powerlan, then I recommend the 500 Mbit class, unless you just want to z. B. maximum DSL 6000 for the purpose of Internet or as MP3 streaming, then go to 85 Mbit or . better yet the 200 Mbit devices plus they are still much cheaper. Users need no wireless but still want to have the fastest technology, the 500 MBit-Mini adapter can use. Installation is easy with all adapters! On the speed specified by the manufacturer or Devolo Cockpit but should not be relied and depending on the distance and quality of the mains adapter to function again, great and sometimes hardly at all!
But today rather favorable Repeater (Range Amplifier), AP's and fast wireless adapters (up to 300 Mbit) available, the performance quite different and expensive Powerlan could in my personal case in turn, are in question ...
The absolute event I had when I had to reset the adapter to factory settings, since no house icon was displayed. My now reset Teter Powerlan adapter combined with the unsecured Devolo-200 devices the neighbors (no kidding!). I was able to integrate these adapters in my network. Here seem elec. Very close to extending lines of both apartments next to each other and the "crosstalk" between the signals appears to cause this effect. Here helps only assign the adapter for SN-number and password assignment to effect a separation of powerline networks. So it does not need the electricity meter inevitably be the end!
My devolo dLAN 500 AV Wireless adapter make no noise. The temperature development is kept within limits. Sometimes extremely (house symbol LED in the middle lights up red), the data transmission is reduced suddenly, here you have the devices occasionally reset (off and reinsert). This 500 Mbit adapters are almost twice as thick and long as the 500 AV Mini class. The 500/200 Mbit adapters from devolo are however fully compatible.
I contend themselves with me as far as the star award, it is indisputable the most versatile set that I had previously. A clear advantage is the wireless Accespoint capability and the integrated power supply. One disadvantage I see the pretty massive size of the devices, the high price and the fluctuating rather poor performance in my case, or the utter misrepresentation in Devolo Cockpit.
Ex .: Cockpit value for 1st Adapter 100 Mbit = 12.5 Mbytes / s, 2 Mbit Adapter 75 = 9.4 Mbyte / s (would be all great), but actually only real 25.6 Mbit = 3.2 Mbyte / s and 18.4 Mb = 2.3 MByte measurable. Therefore Powerlan is not really suitable as always fast transmission medium.
3.5 Stars - The idea, the concept and the basic functionality is not bad, but in my case is the performance on all adapters (for 500 Mbit class) too low.
