BenQ XL2411Z 61 cm (24 inches) 3D LED Monitor (HDMI, DVI-DL, VGA, 1ms response time) black / red (Accessories)

Customer Review

Hello everybody,
I bought this monitor 1 week and thoroughly tested. Here are my first impressions all meet together with my personal feeling.

Packaging / Design

The monitor is solidly wrapped up and has contrary to what I read in various forums, no fingerprints or scratches. The display was sealed with a thin film and had to be completely unpacked to get a clear view of the display only. The structure does not take more than 2 minutes. Up stand, monitor it stuck to the screen locks, finished.

Attached is a DVI-DL Cable which I strongly recommend to use (required for frequencies above 60Hz to process). Please be careful with some graphics cards which output is used. In older models, it may happen that only one of the two DVI outputs can handle dual link signal properly. Otherwise the monitor is very stable and has a simple design which appeals to me as a very minimalist.

Basic Setting / First impression

As was the monitor set up and connected I operated anticipation of the switch to the bottom left. A discreet green light confirms the ready monitor, which is not disturbing even in the dark.

But what had shocked me at first, was the gaudy picture with fully faded colors that came to me as counter shot. So I once took a look in the OSD Menu. Here, color fastness, contrast, and gamma values can be set very detailed.

Contrary to some opinions here from various recessions I find very comfortable designed the menu. Especially when you consider how big is the functional range of the monitor, you can reach all functions with a few clicks. For all those that would still be too cumbersome to download the BenQ offers display pilot. This then offers the possibility of using software to operate the OSD.

A criticism which is often addressed I have to confirm, unfortunately also. If you want the individual presetting (Standard, Picture, FPS1, FPS2,) is switchen each mode activated (screen is black short and then shows the corresponding screen mode) before you arrive at the desired mode. Personally, I can live with it since 3 Settings can be stored permanently in the monitor (Player1, Player2, player3). This may be the selected can be assigned freely, moreover, with each function on one of the 3 speed dial keys.

Display / gaming behavior

Now to the most important point. The display itself and its suitability for gaming. Had after I mention the extremely poor initial setting up. Have I rummaged through various forums to get experience as the optimum result can pick from the TN panel. I found what I've become at PC monitor. Here is a very comprehensive and professional review to find XL2411Z: [...].

Among other things, a number of settings and its impact in the RGB color space are shown here. I personally recommend to the ICC profiles to access. These improve the image but significantly. At first the image of BenQ monitor looked very pale and too bright. With the right ICC profile, the colors are but corrected accordingly. Those who hoped for a miracle it is but a little disappointed here. Anyone buying a purebred gaming monitor with a TN panel has to be aware that the color fastness is always suffer the point of reaction and the properties of a TN panel. On the desktop, my black level has improved a lot and I can also surf the Internet without sunglasses.

In games, however, comes a brightness very well. I have tested several PC games with the XL2411Z. BF4, Batman: Ghost, Left4Dead, and a few more. Here the strengths of this incredible fast screen come to their best advantage. Just Battefield feels with 144Hz extremely supple.

Version / Firmware Update

I read again and again discussions whether because of XL2411Z or XL2420Z the better monitor is. To all who ask yourself this question must be said: It is absolutely the identical panel! Only the S-Panel allowed that faster change of settings and also offers more connectivity options such as USB ports are available at the 20Z version still on top, but the additional cost of around 100 euros does not justify for me. Read there is in English at: [...].

The monitor I ordered on 08.10.2014 and get him even supplied with V1 firmware. I think this is a pure game of chance if you are caught with a V2 or not. For those who stumble in the recessions repeatedly about this firmware issue and not really know why this is so bad, I want to briefly discuss the.

BenQ offers the Z-series gaming monitors on which are equipped with a special feature called Low Motion Blur. Here are quick photos as in first-person shooters of the case are presented sharper. This means it is produced during fast pan through houses alleys etc. no or only very slight blur effects that make the image act otherwise somewhat greasy.
When this feature is activated for firmware V1 degrades the image quality tremendously. That is, it gives the impression as if a dark gray haze would be displayed on the monitor. This can no longer compensate for even the very high contrast. In Battlefield so I had the feeling I'd ever play in the evening. Once Low Motion Blur is turned off, the picture is again bright and contrasty.

With Firmware V2 the Z series of BenQ allows a third-party tool that offers the possibility to blur technology set itself (not just on / off as V1). Here, the strobe and crosstalk values can be changed at will. This each player can choose themselves whether he is more interested in a low input lag (picture looks darker for it but with fast movements more sharply), or a brighter image preference (picture looks much brighter, with fast movements but arise slight blur effects ).

With firmware V1 the monitor does not allow this tool. Therefore, I recommend to do without what is not in my opinion is bad either at V1 on this feature. Most players are likely to not notice, let ligands influence the feel the slight blur effects. Players the Tournament oriented, however, and should expect to gain a slight advantage to upgrade to V2.

Unfortunately, this sounds easier than said. There are basically three ways for that are discussed in many forums. I would like to address here only one way. Namely to bring the ability to monitor itself with a Linux distribution and a VGA cable up to date. H has published a very detailed instructions for this: [...].

Do not be put off to go this route. I myself have no Linux skills and have also managed. You just have to be very careful and go through each step carefully. I have it but nevertheless invested nearly 4 hours effort.

I would just like to point out an error message, which has brought me to despair and I have no forum found a solution for this: If

See # List i2c devices on the bus 1
sudo i2cdetect 1

an error message is unknown command then has to install the i2c-tools is not working. Addiction with your Ubuntu box on the Internet easy to install i2c-tools selects a download and manually install these tools. Already it can go on.

In addition, I recommend to you to unpack the RAR file with the new firmware V2 before you store them somewhere. Ubuntu is a RAR file and do anything in a hurry I have no freeware tool like WinRar found there was on Ubuntu.
Otherwise there should be no further problems.

Conclusion
The monitor is addressed to hardcore gamers who play mostly FPS games. There are no better or no better monitor TN panel for this purpose. The reaction time and functions are unbeatable. Smears must, however, in color fastness make, though falling somewhat pale colors only on the desktop and surfing. In games you have the high contrast and the Black eQualizer even in dark scenarios always a clear view. By outdated firmware V1 and effort with ICC profiles to obtain a usable image, the monitor is well suited to the non-shy for advanced users the time and sat with the matter apart and want. For all the a plug and play gaming monitor looking at the page does not have to be changed much on the basic setting off 120Hz or 144Hz monitors with all these bells and whistles features!

I myself will keep this monitor, as I am very satisfied with the current settings and have the image after many settings optimally manage to thanks to the help of H and PC monitor. Who has come again to enjoy want to use a 144Hz monitor with optimal settings never have otherwise.

I hope I could you at a purchase decision to help Greetings, Fabian.
