So far, I have been working with a Lenovo T520 with an i5 processor, 256GB SSD and 4GB of RAM. With more than 3 kg weight this is only suitable for traveling. The notebook comes with me mainly as a MIDI sequencer for my digital piano, the financial management, for video and image processing, to learning, not least as office and surf computers used.
Thus, should a supplement for my Tablet ago, which should also take over functions of my notebook, ideally all of them. The idea of being able to use my sample software on a handy tablet on the music stand was, wound up the difference.

Because of my limited budget of a maximum of 400 EUR I ordered first the Acer Switch 10 with 64GB eMMC in the FullHD version for about 350 EUR. As luck would have it sometimes, I found out that it just also gave a convertible on offer at Aldi. The Medion Akoya P2214T also cost only 350 EUR, but had to offer at first glance better equipment. So I marched to Aldi, got me one device, although the offer existed for some time. It seems the days when you had to set up a tent on the eve at Aldi and stay to get a device that is long gone.
So it happened that I had to be one of the last weekends both devices on the table, which is enough opportunity to compare them.
The comparison is based on the identical price levels! An Acer Switch with 11 FHD display naturally costs significantly more than the Convertible of Medion. There will therefore involve: Where can I get more for the same money?
Scope of supply:

When Acer switch 10 of the scope of supply is limited to the bare minimum. Power supply and various information sheets are available. In addition, there is a license for Office 365 for 1 year. A recovery CD or the like are nowhere.

Workmanship and design:

The Acer Switch 10 is very well made and there are no visible gaps. The aluminum surface the back looks classy and the keyboard is despite its small size and closely spaced buttons to operate very well and with a pleasant pressure point. The magnetic docking mechanism works very reliably.
Initial concerns that connection could break loose during loading something were quickly dispelled. One can switch Acer 10 lift to the tablet unit without disengages the mechanism. The only drawback: If you tilt the screen too far back, the whole unit tilts away backwards. A somewhat better weight distribution would have been desirable.
In the workmanship the Medion P2214T can not keep up.
The device is made entirely of plastic. The Dockmechanismus is not as trustworthy as the Acer switch 10. Instead of a magnetic lock sets Medion on a plug-in contact with slider to loosen and lock. The used tablet unit wobbles in the docked state to the touch due to design something back and forth. The back of the tablet is pretty soggy, uneven and can also push something. Display and touchscreen:

When operating both devices give nothing. Both use Windows 8.1. When Acer Switch 10 can be still an active stylus for about 40 EUR rebuy. This facilitates operation. Handwritten notes are also possible. I could not make friends with it compared to writing on ordinary paper. The keyboard is divided sinnig both devices. With both a numeric keypad missing. Too bad. The quality of the P2214T is bad, but the keyboard is larger, so that me this keyboard subjectively still better like.
The undocking the tablet is a little more complicated when Medion device. You must first press the slide switch to the side and can then take the tablet out of the holder. Variability:
========
Here we are in the domain of Convertibles. It should be usable in all possible positions.
None of the devices has a 360 ° hinge. Nevertheless, the switch 10 with keyboard unit can use as a Tablet: You put the display and sets it offset by 180 ° again. After collapsing the display is on the top. In public transport is very convenient as you do not remove and stow the keyboard unit in tablet mode. Battery life

With the Acer Switch 10 I was able to work 6 hours continuously until the battery was exhausted.
When Medion P2214T the matter is somewhat more complicated. After the first charge, I took advantage of the Medion permanently with some breaks, with full wireless connectivity for downloads, photo editing, copying data, installing software, etc. In this case, the battery lasted through 8 hours with one of the two batteries (of the keyboard -dock with no. 2 in), adopted after 5 hours. In my view, the price-performance ratio, however, the Medion device is better. You get here a much leistungsstärkerers Convertible for the same price, with a few drawbacks in the processing. In addition, wireless connectivity is the Acer Switch 10 clearly worse and gave me did not like. That was the main reason why I have ultimately sent back and in the evaluation may depart a star.
