Diplomacy before World War

Harold Nicolson himself diplomat who attended the Congress of Paris in 1919 was particularly well placed to describe the diplomatic world of the war before the world was also his father. The book is well written and highlights the changing uses and reflections of the diplomats in the early twentieth century. The direct contact between heads of state except family reasons were rarer and importance of substantial ambassadors, a world in itself who knew and trusted.
