TomTom Via 135 M Europe Traffic navigation system incl. Free Lifetime Maps, 13cm (5 inch) display, 45 countries, TMC, lane and parking assistant, handsfree Bluetooth, IQ Routes, Map Share (Electronics)
After the cards from my beloved Navigon were outdated, an update is too expensive and therefore not meaningful and now even Navigon was acquired by Garmin, had to be an alternative! So I'm looking for the leader and multiple test winner at "Stiftung Warentest" - decided "TOMTOM". Here are the reasons why the Via 135 failed for me: * Map display has probably not changed in TomTom in the past 15 years and is still very long in the tooth. * As Navigon spoiled Navi users fail me in TOMTOM too many details in the map view. For example, many POIs are displayed only with a simple symbol. Since the whole looks then very quickly cluttered and confusing. Other Herstelle have here firm-specific symbols in their cards. eg Sparkasse, Lidl, McDonalds, Esso, ect. Why the TOMTOM not manage? * On the navigation even I can expose little. The well is clear and effective. But why can not I choose from several routes in the route calculation? So always 3 selectable from NAVIGON routes before the start of driving in the map to me were displayed. In TOMTOM here is max. another route offered to its own input. * The view while driving is very restless. Constantly the map is rotated and jerky in my opinion. Also TOMTOM has a problem with turning the map in the 3D view to curves. Thus, the "arrow display" only 1 time moves - two seconds sideways before the card is again rotated in the direction of travel. The other manufacturers create any problems. * A Voice Control may be already useful but at Via 135, this is completely overloaded. How is one to remember 1000 voice commands? Especially since the implementation is not really very good here. First, the key for the voice command has to be pressed, then you have to wait for a beep until you can speak, after the announcement of the complete address is a list of suggestions from which you can select his wish. (Good is true that you can announce the complete address in the piece here, but here the error rate is very high! While driving with road noise which is very likely that the device does not recognize this right.) When you get displayed the results list, you have to scroll through only once by all the proposals. This happens by voice command. If you're lucky, then its result is the same on the first page. The aim is again read by TomTom and you have to confirm it using voice commands. Perhaps it all over time a little better and with proper exercise and faster, but the touch of your hand is generally faster anyway. .... If it was not again the peculiarities of TOMTOM .... Why not possible letters on the keyboard are here hidden in the manual destination input is not like other manufacturing ???? A mistyping with constant correction is inevitable here. * But now the reason why TomTom Via 135 has disqualified permanently with me: What Tomtom has only thought in this bracket?!? I do not know really what advantage is to bring a permanently installed in the unit housing with it? This is fiddly and short. Woe to him who drives a van or similar. Here you have to have quite stretch that to get to the unit. I recommend the same 6-inch device. I also fell several times while driving from the disc the suction cup. But since I use the unit together with my wife, the vehicle is changed frequently. In Navigon I had a firm Brodit holder in both vehicles and had just unclip and clip back in the other vehicle the device. This is not possible with this TOMTOM holder. Although this can also completely remove the device but this is so schwergänig that I'm sure, at least after the 10 exchange this is so ausgenudelt that it no longer holds.
I'll have to send the device back and forth looking for a worthy successor NAVIGON. :-(
