I give my Vorrezensentin right insofar as that first BENEATH THE BLEEDING as latest book is a must for Tony Hill / Carol Jordan. I am one, and it was disappointing. The story is absolutely farfetched, constructed and untrustworthy. Even the own fictional characters doubt the actual, deep motive of the serial killer and the silence of the offender nourishes me to suspect that Val McDermid also do not really know how this twisted story is yet to be saved. The parallel case of the bomber and whose motive is pretty much the most ridiculous reason for (mass) murder, I have ever read in a book. The ratio Hill / Jordan is not enough to convince as a thriller. Val McDermmid wrote hitherto prima thriller, but the book gives the impression that it is only and exclusively written for the commerce. For me this series is now completed. But two stars because of the tension that comes across but somehow cheap.
Being a fan of Hill / Jordan I am disappointed with this book. Both story and motives of the killers are not farfetched, plausible and sometimes even ridiculous. Lots of loose ends ie the silence of the poisoner cause a distinct feeling did even Val McDermid did not find a plausible explanation and / or a way out of the maze of foogy this book. I got the feeling Val McDermid wrote this book Purely and only for commercial reasons, Which is OK. But as the thrill of the book comes cheaply I read my last Val McDermid.
