After reading the flattering comments on this TV here on LCD and Compare All digital, I bought it in May 2011. From the beginning I was disappointed by the dullness of the picture. In expert mode, I had to "cheat" with the options that the image does not satisfy me. However, I recently read buyers comments describing the same defect. I applied the recommended solution, and eureka! I now have a wonderful image contrast and bright! Owner of a KDL-32EX521 also I applied the same correction with the same positive effect.
So the explanation is that these TVs are equipped with a light sensor, which decreases as appropriate brightness and contrast especially carelessly. But rather than leaving the choice to the user to enable or disable this option, it is applied automatically and does not appear in the picture settings !!! : - (((
With the remote control, press "home". Then select "Settings" then "System Settings" and "Ecology" and "light sensor" by validating you deselect "no." There you go!
