A novel that I can describe as pleasant given its blackness and themes (not to disclose not to spoil the suspense ...) but I enjoyed the final, even if it leaves an impression from mild discomfort after the last closed page. The plot is based on the return of Camille Preaker to the scene of his childhood there to investigate the murder of two little girls, and this return as a journalist forced him to face his mother and dive back in dramas of his own childhood, the self-mutilated body of Camille still bears the scars ...
It is not a breathless thriller, the main survey is to me more like a backdrop to develop the tortured character that is Camille. Nothing fancy but a strong work nevertheless, and in any case for a very successful first novel.
