- The Device:
- Holder: The suction cup of Via's pretty much the stupidest thing ever. The Via depends so so far away from the driver that it is absolutely impossible while driving to operate the device. The reason for this is that the Navi glued directly on the disc. With my old Navi, a Navigon 2110 max, the (incidentally very solid) support bridged good 10cm and moved to the Navi in the same level as the buttons on the radio or air conditioning. But TomTom sold so many additional brackets for good money ... I immediately ordered the clamp for the air vents with. Even this is not very well thought out, fummlig and probably will not fit in all cars. In my Golf VI it works halfway, the Navi is easy to reach but the solution is not great. For example, can be adjusted to the orientation of the Navis only pretty bad on the driver and when removing the Navi from the bracket to tear the base plate usually out all or half of the ventilation ...
- Display and touchscreen: My five year old Navigon has the same (or a similar lowly) resolution as the Via and also a capacitive touch screen (= touch-sensitive film on the display). I did not expect that this is outdated technology in 2013 still used. Worse: the Via have to literally banging on the screen (fingernail) to obtain inputs. Va is the case in the display areas. In addition, I have the impression that this display significantly more reflected than that of its predecessor and is also darker. Not a good combination ...
- Software
- Representation: I can not help, but I find the presentation potthässlich. Curves are drawn as pixelated polygons (square) and the animation is choppy. Va in curves or when turning the drops to quite strong. Details of the countryside or village through which you are driving virtually non-existent. My 2008er Navigon presented the landscape DEZENT is three-dimensional and DEZENT showed several useful details. I can not say anything else, but I think it's extremely dusty. In 2008 would be OK, but we write-2013.
- Voice control: The must first be activated on the display by pressing a large button 5 cents. Hitting next, any other function is called, which will be only to leave again ... If you hit, has the garrulous computer users to enter certain functions by voice. Honestly. I understand the principle of hearing after the first time and do not need to hear again and again in the next 5 years, the announcement ... addresses are not always understood correctly what I can understand. VA with similar sounding names (Eningen vs. Ehningen vs. Teningen) chaos emerged. But instead to make sure only what site the user because thinks the Navi proposes any goals, which the user can then select. If you are lucky is the desired goal. If not, bad luck.
- Telephone Integration: The speakerphone works well pleasing. I must say in all honesty. However, the rest of the phone function is redissolved ugly and not well thought out. If you call about the Navi the Phonebook are displayed alphabetically by name sorted whopping 5 numbers. If one wants to call his friend Albert has perhaps fortunate that the number "above" is. If one wants to call his friend Xaver will you probably need to scroll. Pro "scrolling to" It takes about 4 seconds. And one must hit the button ... Something like "shortcut keys" on which you can store the 10 most important numbers, there are not even. Also it is not possible to Navi "calls to Albert" to command ...
- PC software: The Via comes with various subscriptions for cards and community functions. There will be connected to the PC via USB daily. I will not say anything, but you want to expand your Navi day (which is not working so great), connect to your PC and update? Could not have been there that already via Bluetooth to your satnav coupled, can hernehmen Mobile optional? Ok. For 5GB large map updates that not a good idea is perhaps but a few construction warnings, etc. could have been received on the cell phone ... Apart from that: the TomTom app integrates as a sort of tray icon in the system. A "real" GUI does not exist, instead to communicate via the web browser with the Navi. That's not very pretty and also does not always work so great. An update for the software is displayed for days to me again and again, even though I have installed 15 times. When updating the Community messages the process hung a quarter of an hour solid at 95%.
My Conclusion:
I'm really amazed at how little difference betw. A really completely outdated Navigon and this unit exists. I also think a lot of functions for ill-conceived and after the first joy of free calling and voice control will be no longer or are reluctant to use very quickly, probably both, because the functions are not fun. If my Navigon to use yet, I'd Via send back.
