Purchasing decision:

My actual impression:
- Graphical user interface
The first time I noticed immediately that the presentation of the card rather low in contrast (light, pastel colors) and is weak. I thought at first to be able to still change a bit in the display settings, but apart from the brightness (which was already fully utilized), there were no options. Rapid detection of the material provided is difficult, and thus the use is not really ablenkungsarm.
The target search the entire database is automatically intently. Addresses and POIs are equally sought. This has the advantage that you no longer need to change the country or the place (the latter is determined very pleasant for people in the countryside), but of course you get by initially displayed many proposals that do not apply. Also unneeded letters are not hidden, but that would also make a search in the entire database probably does not make sense. With the conventional operating procedure but you may come there faster, since you no longer have to enter the entire address. (This is, incidentally, exactly at Garmin. Apart from that you have to change the country continues to be) If you then enter a street, they are sorted according to the location nearby. The result is divided into two parts - left the address, right POIs.

- Touch-screen
An absolute disgrace. Much needs to be done about swiping and when you wipe, one automatically selects something from. Setup displays the result, you constantly adjust settings. If you wipe the main menu, the reaction is initially slow, the shift to the left of the menu, however, then goes very quickly equip, so that one might think they had now "wiped over" menu items.
The touch gesture has to be partly carried out very powerfully. To find an address by touch, is okay, the buttons on the keyboard may be a bit small. Especially since the left and right about 1cm space remains free.
The response to touch or swiping is slow. One often has the feeling that the gesture was not recognized and was subsequently twice getoucht and then unfortunately already operates the following screen. This can be quite annoying.
When Garmin I was surprised by the quite good resistive touch display. Of course, this is nowhere comparable to a capacitive display. However, the Garmin goes smoothly around with swiping. There is no strong pressure from emergencies.
-Sprachbedienung:
I'm a fan of voice control in the car, because it is really useful. I also expect miracles from a voice control, but what TomTom offers here is, just poorly designed.
Let's start with the keyword (ie the word you use to wake up the voice control) on. "Hey TomTom" is okay, but I'd like the ability to adjust the keyword itself. The Garmin offers this possibility.
When Go 60 recognition of keywords is rather mediocre (the Garmin recognizes it immediately and almost without exception). From the keyword detection to opening the voice control system is quite a long time, I think. But that's at the touch gestures yes exactly. The first set of speech is very, very great. Short and concise: "I hear." I do not want to get each time explaining what I have to do now (clearly point to TomTom compared with Garmin). But now to the actual operation by language:
First of all, the recognition is rather poor. It took 6 attempts to enter an address that is not exactly complicated. And since we have been coming to the biggest drawback: The top hit is not read. So you are always forced to look into the results list. Always have to be read four results, which are also written still quite small. This voice control should ensure in the car so that you keep your eyes on the road. In Garmin will, in addition to the list displayed, the top hit read. Here so you can always continue to correct, without looking at the display. Point of Garmin.
The functions of voice control is partially different in both devices. While TomTom focuses primarily on the destination entry (and in all shapes and colors) (change brightness, terminate route guidance, etc.), Garmin also brings features that are relevant while driving. But that TomTom provides a help system, which is a clear advantage, since you so get an overview of the commands you can use. There is however a disadvantage that the help system though by voice trigger, but this can only end haptic.
Overall, I have no features that really make sense while driving. Enter a bypass, end the route guidance, avoid motorway etc. These are all use cases that occur when driving. The Garmin here not covered themselves with glory, however, also. "Stop Guidance" Except there are not all these functions.
The commands I do not necessarily intuitive to both devices. A few variants would have been nice.
