This is an excellent book that blends the story of several soldiers of any regiment during the Russian campaign, starts with the innocent enthusiasm to total annihilation. Gradually the atmosphere is deteriorating, the officers realize the monstrous errors of Hitler, but continue to fight, for "camaraderie" for their men. Beyond that, what is extremely poignant is the story which is made hot, because the (s) author (s) narrates (s) the exact conditions under which the fighting took place, with details of force. Too maybe because sometimes it is easy to tangle in the descriptions between different people and different actions. However this is a book that deserves to be read by anyone who is interested in the Russian campaign.
