Toshiba 39L4363DG 98 cm (39 inch) TV (Full HD, Triple Tuner, Smart TV) (Electronics)

Customer Review

Summary The Toshiba 39L4363DG is an excellent device for its price range with weaknesses in the operation, especially at the station sorting. Technically untrained or impatient can as well give up returns ?! But whoever brings time and experimentation, will be rewarded with a superb Full HD image. Minus: No power switch. Overall very good value for money!

Time of this review the day after delivery and commissioning.

Preliminary I have fully written four pages here, and I hope you will not get bored. About critical comments and questions I would be very happy, because I am reviewing some. Thanks ;-)

Motives and appearances reason to buy this TV, the intention of veteran second unit (LG, Year 2001, 72 cm, tube, "Made in Europe") was to send in the parental home in retirement.

I posted the following requirements: At least 2 HDMI ports, integrated DVB-S2, Scart and Component input, no 3D, power-saving, about 40 inches, simple remote control, matt finish possible housing instead glossy fingerprint collector, VESA drilling, brand unit, and _günstig_ especially.

Amazon had this TV in early August for 449 on offer, at an even lower Amazon Warehouse deal I suggested to then, since the new price had just climbed by more than 50. Per Prime Toshiba was the next morning there, and except for a broken Styrofoam element in the re-closed box left nothing to yoke it to that it returned to any or B-Ware is. In this respect, the risk was worth ;-)

In my following hymns we must always keep the price in mind. 'You get what you pay for'. This applies to pretty much anything you can buy, from the meat over clothes to cars.

To my surprise, the unit is very well made. According to the data brings the TV without foot 7 kilos in the featherweight one has already S ****, courageously zuzulangen when unpacking and installation. The base is appropriate and fits the minimalist design of the TV, which can not be turn on. Four screws for mounting on housing are at a fifth to allow the screwing of the foot on a tabletop. So I'll wait until after the month long return period, if nevertheless should set a negative permanent condition. If small children or pets frolic, this anti-tip is of course a must!

Nameplate Toshiba manufactures in Poland. Very nice, because I was afraid that next Made in -part come into the house. The build quality is impeccable. Nothing is tilted or uneven. One can not expect a high-quality buttons on the side panel in this price range; they are a little wobbly. Warning: There is no power switch for disconnection from the mains, but only Standby / On. However, Remedy created a power strip with a switch.

While the narrow frame is matt, the panel is slightly shiny. However, I could not identify any reflections from light sources is switched on overhead lighting as daylight through the window. The televisions are available but away from the window in a corner; This impression may be different elsewhere.

The annular LED on the enclosure's bottom right lights, depending on the on / standby state green or red. She is very discreet, so you will literally not bothered while watching TV.

Remote control Two AAA batteries for the remote control CT-90429 were at. This is well in hand, the battery compartment is located at the lower end. Stand upright, they can not because of the strongly rounded bottom. The feel of the keys is pleasant, the pressure point well. Toshiba used for labeling the available space as possible from. Serious concerns about the non-existent gaps in the directional pad dispersed rapidly, as the tactility of the individual directional buttons is good, but blind sometimes arrived just yet next to it. However, this is only a matter of habit. A plus point there for the clear structure.

HD-ready DVB-T + C + S and analogue tuner setup and tuning is obtained here in a single device. Analog television is turned off while transmission technology in Germany, but it's nice that the Toshiba technology buries not just because it is supposedly no longer needed. The analog tuner also dominated not only PAL and SECAM, but also native NTSC. This is likely to lift the TV from the competition ground, the NTSC only via the video input. Here a manufacturer has realized that one should not throw all the old "ballast", just because he is no longer a daily basis. It is likely to be one or another special situation where analog TV is still needed, and it is reassuring to have it just in case at the start.

The installation wizard had initially clear and inviting. The highly legible font could be set higher, so you do not have to look twice even from a distance. This also applies to the Program Guide ("Guide"). The tuning proved agonizingly because we here with Hotbird 13.0 ° East and 19.2 ° East Astra have a DiSEqC system. You can not just adjust the settings for the DVB-S reception. This can only happen if you go through the complete process of tuning:
1.) wrench key press for the main Menu installation channel tuning Satellite settings. In "Switch Type" you have a choice of 4-way DiSEqC 2 and SCD (Unicable) and tone burst. Selecting another option will cause all the settings (the sender) will be deleted if you continue.
2.) The station is sought in himself level via the menu item "Antenna / Cable / Satellite". Now comes the indication that all channels could be deleted. And they will be deleted if you continue!

Here, then, time and patience is required, because for me it knocked the first time do not immediately go, and the channel search takes time. Well, if you have a simple constellation with only one LNB, because you can not go wrong a lot.

The transmitters have a mixed sorting, ARD and ZDF on 1 and 2. An adjustment to the own Gusto will want to make the most. And lend a hand is tedious: you must (, Channels DTV Settings) select the channel in the installation menu by checking and dropping. Quite simple really, but just shifted transmitter retains its old number. But there the "Renumber" option. That could be a little easier if you were not constantly thrown back to the last "row number" in the channel list and lost in the consequence. So you have to scroll back to the old position after each machining operation again. Time consuming and annoying! Here Toshiba could consider what Easier me but is no device under come when this job really easy going out of hand. The Toshiba's differentiation between the transmitter number and list position is unnecessary and illogical. The scenario to enter a channel number, which differs from the list item ("row number") is likely to be more for Labyrinth lovers or pranksters.

Theoretically, you can be the remote control and Menügemetzel just described save by conveniently arranges channels on PC. Theoretically. There is a free tool for:
[Da Amazon Links kills, please look for on the Internet: SetEdit ToshibaEdit_de]
but with this Toshiba series L4 there is (still) not clear. If you do, the steps would be as follows: USB flash drive (FAT32 formatted) into the TV, press mute button on the remote control, release, press and hold, while the TV press the volume-down button, release it. USBTV or TVUSB: a menu "Hotel Clone" A few seconds later appears. The latter copied __alle__ TV settings to the stick, incl. Station list and network configuration. Privacy Warning: Entered wireless password is stored in plain text.

Then you read the files created on PC, one could easily edit the channel list using the mouse and back again to play on TV. But as already stated, the present Version 1.01 of Toshiba-Edit as of 25.09.2012 is no longer cope with the likely revised data format and shows just alphabet soup. I was then on this project and suggested the time disappointed with the manual Sort by remote control dead.

Everyday operation, changeover Operation in everyday use is simple, alone, the response time of the TVs to commands from the remote control is sometimes a bit sluggish. The delay is never greater than 1 second and therefore not really annoying. As stated above: One must keep an eye on the price range, so I'm assuming that Toshiba has not installed the most powerful CPU. The switching time is faster than 2 seconds, both DVB-T and S / S2. DVB-C and analogue TV I could not test.

There is for each tuner type own station list, you must select a submenu that you reach via the "TV" button on the remote top right. Mixing of DVB-T and DVB-S channels in a list is not possible. "Favorites" or similar I could not find. On the remote control, there is a special Zap button (intertwined arrows directly under the 9 key), with which you can switch between two transmitters last dialed quickly and forth.

Access to the media libraries of the public broadcaster is excellent. The TV hangs over WLAN to an ADSL line with practically 4 Mbit / s downstream. Image quality and reproduction stability are excellent, sporadic dropouts or trailer I put on the miserable internet connection of our street; you know them well from Youtube on PC.

Teletext also there, the charging time is quick. The classic teletext font is something intrinsically, not so pixelized like old German equipment at the time, but legible. When HbbTV teletext (if this term is correct, for example. ARD HD) you get additional navigation aids and more meaningful extras.

The Toshiba cloud fuss and the recording function via USB I have not tested, but the menu suggests that well timed recordings are to be possible.

Sound design reasons I expect absolutely nothing here. The housing volume is too low to produce perceptible bass. Language is nevertheless clear for newscasts enough there. To me, that does not matter, since the optical digital output goes to the stereo. While the digital output is active, you still can adjust the volume on the TV but only rules for boxing TV own. A barrier option in the Sound menu would have been desirable here. For the overall rating that is but a negligible marginal.

Picture The picture is great if you have found its settings. I share with you my:
- Picture Mode: Standard
- Backlight: 60
- Contrast: 100
- Brightness: -16, because otherwise too bright black
- Color [Saturation]: 8, otherwise too pale
- Color [red-green balance]: 5, otherwise as pink-stichtig
- Sharpness: -5
- Advanced> Color Master: from
- Advanced> Color Temperature: normal
- Auto Brightness Sensor: Off
- Dynamic backlight: Off
- Black / White Level: High
- Expert Settings: not touched.
The dynamic backlight I have disabled because this will cause noticeable pumping effects at scene changes. This has the disadvantage that the energy saving effect can be there. No matter, the television is not here all day. Also off I have the automatic brightness sensor, as I could not quite understand the effect. About the expert settings to turn on a test pattern. The black is quite low (only CRT and Plasma screens offer more), white is pure and free of shadows, each bar of the gray wedge is distinguishable. And that is the main task of a TV: deliver an excellent image. He does this, as with IPS virtually independent of the viewing angle. Full five stars.

Like any full HD panel also forgives the Toshiba no artifacts. Casually: poop pure shit out. Errors as not to look at the TV or the settings, but at the source. Since I have no Bock to extra spending on the "HD +" of private, I am here rely on SD quality. This can be regarded even longer, get to without a headache.

In HD movies and documentaries produced on the HD channels of the public broadcasters are an absolute treat, as the 1080p playback from your PC via HDMI. Speaking of documentaries: Here you can see the film grain at 8- or 16-mm shots. In football, on ARD and ZDF HD there no judder or ghosting, slow motion are superfluid. Absolute top! :-)

Conclusion I and my parents are very satisfied. The use in everyday life is easy. The installation and sorting of stations was difficult. However, this is extremely rare before (and enjoying for me in this price range do not influence vote). As it is with new or modified stations, I can not say for lack of experience. Had the TV cost a thousand, I would have pulled off at least one star here. Given an unbeatable price tag of less than 500, in spite of lightweight solid processing, the minimalist design, the supplied feature sets with many connection and adjustment capabilities and superior image quality I forgive all five stars.
