I always used Hoya filters to protect my goals and I never notice any degradation of optical quality. A UV filter is used today only to protect the front lens, it is completely unnecessary to make a fortune in a filter that does not depreciate anyway (once the price multiplied by the number objectives that usually has as much buy a new pebbles disaster!). Conversely with too low cost filter may be lost as an image on a high-end goal. The Hoya filter just lie in the price range that fits. They are of excellent quality and in case of breakage their replacement remains well below the price of a new objo!
