I just bought this 10-22mm lens and I must say that I'm already hooked! I was pleasantly surprised from the first photos ... I use coupled with a 7D and the couple gets along well. First of all, this lens is rather light and compact but without making too much plastic. Rather, it gives an impression of solidity. Its minimum focusing distance of 24 cm. Then the pictures made have a great dive, including in low light. So I could take pictures of night-lit buildings, freehand (ISO 2000) without obtaining any blurry photo! Since this is an ultra wide angle, distortion is quite noticeable against the edges when the subject is close enough. It is therefore appropriate to move photos like this in a post-processing software to correct the outlook, remembering to leave a little room for the left and right when taking the photo. Now, these distortions can be exploited to perform "special effects" ... and perform rather original pictures. In any case, I find it very nice not having to back (when possible; ..) to bring an entire landscape or a building front in a single picture! The USM motor is very responsive and allows updates to quickly and accurately. Technically, this lens has an optical system 13 elements including a glass lens Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) and two aspherical lenses, divided into 10 groups. The front lens does not rotate during focusing, the use of polarizing filters and gradients is perfectly possible. I personally protects the lens with a UV filter. In the end, I believe it is almost ideal for landscape photos, reportage and indoor shots for panoramic integrates original perspective effects.
