The tablet is definitely a great improvement to its predecessor - the "old" Bamboo Fun saw something cheap, the scroll wheel did not work really and the blue glow .. Well, a matter of taste. Now is a very flat, rounded Edelbrettchen ago, with a discreet white light slot on the side and 4 inconspicuous ExpressKeys that can be assigned any function. Start programs, call up keyboard shortcuts (several!), Switch between applications, etc. Very useful. The resolution of the board to have been doubled, but I was fully satisfied already with the old Bamboo and have actually found no change.
The multi-touch control and hits very well after a short period, only the "hold" from Windows elements is unusual - you have to perform a kind of double, but leave your finger on the tablet at the second "Tap", then you can beispielksweise select an icon and in Pull the trash. The difference between genuine double and this maneuver is minimal, but with practice works also. Pen or mouse (yes, you can easily operate both in parallel), however, remain my first choice when many files should be moved. In addition I have laid the "mode change" on the upper side switch - one click and the pin becomes the mouse and little hand movements are enough to go from one corner of the screen to the other.
Anyone familiar with the gestures of the iPhone, will be somewhat disappointed. Quite as supple does not work on Windows computers. The rotating images for example, I did not even get. Many older programs know no gestures or interpret them completely differently. But while at Apple, everything comes from a single source, there is of course a PC of anyone else, an operating system from Microsoft and a tablet from Wacom - as it has rather surprised me that everything was connected within seconds and the basic functions work now without any problems.
One problem I had, however, on the morrow both the ExpressKeys occupancy, as well as the multi-touch function had disappeared. Nevertheless, demand in the unfortunately only English Forum (there should Wacom really rework as a brand company!) Was quickly answered: The Tablet and the driver can "back afflict". For this start the "default file utility", the current configuration (which you set in the other Bamboo tool) to save and then load them again. Why you have not made the two programs into one, is beyond me. But after all, it works.
From something you should not be deterred: Who first experienced the tenderness in programs such as Photoshop, Freehand, Illustrator & Co in action, can not imagine how you could use all those years graphics software without tablet. The multitouch gestures enrich the daily PC use, and are not a gimmick, but make the mouse actually largely superfluous. Who the - downloading text recognition (which, however, are more than 120 MB, no idea what because everything is installed ...) can do without for smaller text (filenames, URLs, form data, etc) even on the keyboard - by the way excellent.
I would buy the new Bamboo anytime again and recommend it to anyone who wants to work creatively to some extent with the PC. Whether it would have done even the smaller model, I can not judge: I'm glad to have a little more space for drawing, to take without zoom and scroll to.
Addendum: At least for me (WinXP) the ExpressKeys and the multitouch gestures are gone after each restart. Very unpleasant, hopefully improved Wacom to the next driver. Therefore, now a star less.
Addendum 2: Obviously, there is a timing issue. The tablet started it, but the USB port or some drivers are not ready yet. I'm assuming that Wacom come to grips with the via update soon. Until then, there is the option to "My Computer, right-click> Manage> Services and Applications> Services" to "TabletServicePen" adjust Service so that it starts delayed: For this call by right-clicking the "Properties" and the "Startup type" change accordingly "Automatic (Delayed Start)" - unfortunately there is this option for WindowsXP, but only from Vista (as I understand). It helps me the tip so do not ...
