I want to explain here why I changed from the 600D to 70D (see also my review for 600D):
- The 8 outer line sensors of the 600D were unfortunately anything but reliable. I used therefore continuously only the central cross-type sensor and has "recomposed" if necessary. In some situations, this had an incorrect exposure resulted because of the picture, with whom I had focused, has also been used for metering, but a completely different lighting had (at Av, Evaluative Metering, and One-Shot AF, this both is stored when the shutter halfway pressed!). Sure you can, although at any time correct the exposure or sometimes use partial / Spot metering or AE Lock button for BackButton Focus repurpose, thus to separate the focusing and metering each other. But in principle Av, Evaluative Metering, oneshot AF and Half-shutter-press Focus a good thing and I want to keep this setting combination principle. With just one cross-type sensor in the 600D here was because of the constant exposure recomposens regularly check and, if necessary. Correction required. With the 18 additional cross-type sensors the 70D, however I can not find a focus point in actually intended crop, with much higher likelihood of attacks, so in fact ultimately the selected area completely in the metering with flows (here I find the various AF-area groups very helpful if it is a bit tricky is with a single AF point). Of course, even an incorrect exposure may occur in extreme situations. These are usually then not so serious and can be corrected in Lightroom without problems. Ultimately, here the better AF system of the 70D results in more usable photos or at least less work.
- Of course, I hope even at actionshots a much better tracking .. that was really with the AF system of the 600D is not so simple. Although I'm still not so many such photos, but for the few occasions one wishes but then, that the camera can join the. Given that can really great photos come out :-) In this context, the 70D offers course regarding the much larger buffer, the 7fps, supporting faster UHS-1 SD card and settings. AF tracking more decisive features. Very nice also the AF-ON button on the 70D purpose BackButton Focusing.
- What personally also very motivated me to change to 70D, there is the existing electronic level, because I suffer from extreme HLDS (Horizon Level Deficiency Syndrome)!
- The Live View is much more useful due to the much faster AF, especially in FlexiZone-Single mode. Then feels as fast as the ordinary phase AF. Along with the Touch-to-focus / touch-to-shoot can make taking pictures in LiveView now a lot of fun! When 600D I LiveView only be used if it does not help went (shooting at ground level, etc. on the head). Otherwise, the focus 3-4s time were just too long.
- Who knows, maybe I will anyway times turn one or the other movies and because the 70D with the Dual AF pixels is unrivaled.
Ultimately simply offers the 70D more comfort, also due to the larger viewfinder with imposable ads, the shoulder displays, the excellent touchscreen, the C mode, the extra buttons / wheels. Do we need all this? Everyone needs to answer for themselves. It will simplify my workflow, saves me a little post-processing and has a clearly superior AF system. Personally, I was worth the extra cost.
A significantly better picture quality you can at the 70D by the way did not expect, maybe a little more pleasing noise performance at higher ISOs. But the image quality of the 600D is already very good.
---- ---- SUPPLEMENTARY
If you rate my review is negative, please sent it a short commentary on what you do not like it / what is wrong with it / what you want to know personally. I am certainly not a professional and open to constructive criticism and corrections. I have taken the trouble and not the 70D single rated for the umpteenth time, but times reported from the perspective of an owner of a three-digit Canon, who wanted to upgrade (my comments can be transferred in principle the on the 550D, 650D and 700D ) - I think there will be some. Likewise, I have been involved with the known AF problem. I might also have a substantial review as "great camera 5 STARS !!!" sorry, but if that's what you want to hear.
