A thermal pad of this thickness makes sense only if gaps between processor / GPU and cooler have to be bridged. In my notebook this was the case, because after changing the thermal paste, the temperature GPU my lap under full load (Furmark) in 5 seconds at 100 ° before I quickly broke off the test.

Fortunately, I have chosen right away the right thickness, which is of course difficult to assess. The thinner the pad, the better the heat dissipation.

Another tip for significantly better cooling: instead of a thermal pad use a piece of copper with a dollop of thermal paste on each side. My GPU now reaches its maximum at 68 ° under Furmark, probably the fan rotates while even slower. This is not surprising, because in contrast to the thermal conductivity of the Phobya with 7W / mK Copper has a thermal conductivity of no less than ~ 380W / mK!
