Seagate now supplies from a new firmware with the identifier CC27. Of the total capacity of 2 TB still usable 1862.89 GB left over after formatting with NTFS and defaults. The hard drive is very quiet and causes practically no vibrations. Whistling or the like are not present. In direct comparison with a 2TB Western Digital Black-Series, the access noise is much quieter. The electricity consumption is 5.5 watts (idle) or 8 Watts (Access). Even when benchmarking the hard disk with a maximum of 38 ° C remains relatively cool, in normal labor, the temperature (SMART values) is at 31 ° C.
On Windows x64 8.1 (Build 9600 Final) were determined with CrystalDiskMark 3:02 x64 following values:
Sequential Read: 203.9 MB / s
Sequential Write: 198.2 MB / s
512K blocks Read: 59.00 MB / s
512K blocks Writing 88.29 MB / s
4K blocks Read: 0.655 MB / s
4K blocks writing: 1,362 MB / s
The hard drive, making it the fastest 2 TB 7,200 RPM hard drive that I have ever tested himself. In the same system a "Western Digital 2TB WD2002FAEX Black" is partially up to 25% slower.
Conclusion: The hard drive is very fast, quiet and cool. Also the power consumption is fine. However, there are increasing reports of Seagate early disk problems, which occur mostly after 2 Jahen. Primary rather the 3TB model seem to be affected. Personally, I have an identical 2TB model with older firmware since the beginning of 2012 at the very intensive daily use, no problems so far.
From me a buy recommendation.
