The idea for the construction of this magnifying glass is not bad. It has free to potter both hands and can also keep on including his glasses. The plastic lenses are better than expected. However, it makes little sense to insert more than 3.5-fold increase since then limits the focus range to a few centimeters in front of the eyes. At least for pottering hand simply is no room. This may be responsible for the laws of optics.
However, there are also of my criticisms that have been solved is not perfect in the design:
- Most striking is that a child's head was used as a benchmark. If the lenses used to be located at the correct position, I have to pull down to the eyebrows, the "end loupe". There she sits then of course no longer optimal and quiet as the eyebrows form a bead.
- If you want to use this as a magnifier reading glasses - and for that they would actually be ideal - you have to always easily move your head left and right. If you move only your eyes, you quickly reach the edge of the magnifying glasses. Again, the eye relief of a child must have been used as a benchmark. Had the lenses 1 cm wide, everything would be fine and we would have a real Unversal Loupe reading glasses. Not only novels but also manuals are often very small print.
- The last thing I criticize the mechanism, which allows to adjust the 2 LED lamps in height. There would have been plenty of opportunities. Here it was decided that the lamp engages in various positions. So far so good. Unfortunately, the whole thing is so detached that one with considerable force (here was probably amazingly, no child the model) has to overcome the resistance of a tiny plastic tab that locks in elongated small grooves from counterpart. This process appears to break dangerous - for this tiny plastic nose - that I avoid it as much as possible, to change the angle of the lamp.
If I no longer use the lamp one day, it will be very likely because me this' snap - nose "is canceled.
All in all, they are just little things that should have been done differently in the design. And already this end loupe would be perfect.
Fortunately, I bought the thing on eBay for well under 10 euros incl. Shipping. That remains to me as a small consolation for the annoying little shortcomings.
For people with a small head, this is in fact a "frontal" magnifier and thoroughly recommended.
The 2 LEDs make good light for reading or tinkering, but not so much that you could climb through dark caves.
