There are now the 6908SE (SE = Second Edition). Keyboard light and flashlight Added - both nice features, especially in the motor home. The chipset will also be faster, which of course is always good. Here are my experiences to the "old" WS-6908:
It was important that German is available as a menu language. Astra was preset with me by the way, also the battery was charged. So I could start right away and Astra had found after 5 minutes. Who has ever tried to align the wardrobe of a mobile home from a bowl, will understand my joy. Otherwise it was always an act of at least half an hour - usually I have completely abandoned.
In the English manual is only explains the menus and submenus there - but not how to makes entries there. This is not at "North, South, East and West" and purely numeric keypad course. Since March 25, 2012 provides SatLink ready also a German manual. And that is no simple translation but by professionals supplemented - thank you for that.
When you enter your current GPS position in the WS-6908, it shows you the direction, elevation and Skew. If you still have a compass and altitude protractor at hand, you're almost done - and must fine-tune only. But this function is already worth 5 stars.
Very useful is the blue "Lock" -Kontrollleuchte. The strikes often much earlier than the signal indication and can significantly speed up the search.
A PC program for managing the satellite list is included. In order to update the satellite list via USB is possible.
On specifications I refrain - which can be found (in an epic scale) at SatLink.
2 nice additional features are worth mentioning:
the device has an AV input, an AV cable with matching plug is also supplied. So I can use the WS-6908 as a screen for my hasty purchased reversing camera. Actually, the picture on my Navi should be spent, but that does not understand the Navi NTSC camera.
via the AV output, you can provide a TV and use as the WS-6908 as a receiver (but without remote control). A cable jack to RCA is. Recently I had to use WS-6908 as a receiver. That was very helpful.
Conclusion:
Strictly speaking, the WS-6908 may not be a meter but a portable receiver. I have certainly found what I was looking for. It has been more than three years, a loyal companion and has helped many desperate. I highly recommend this device only urgently on.
