Scope of supply:
The HDD is delivered (in the product description from Amazon as RTL kit called), ie in a separate protected box by the manufacturer WD, which in turn was in good hands housed in compact Amazon package here as a retail kit. A general multilingual and illustrated Summary / -anleitung is, but is not so necessary, since the installation instructions are important in their own server system. SATA connector cable are not in, but four screws for installation.
Features:
The SATA III drive in the size of 3.5 inches has a buffer memory of 64 MB and runs at 7200 rev / min. These are normal values, although numerous hard drives with 5400 U / min still be sold, see below for more. The warranty period for the disk is 3 years.
My use:
I use the hard drive in a DS115j NAS from Synology to replace a moderate space cornered 1TB Red plate also from WD, but with 5400 U / min. My NAS system is primarily the backup, added the occasional stream music and movies (by the way all of my legally purchased) on a home network. My NAS is housed in a rarely used room on carpet. I can not say anything because my NAS can only accommodate a HDD of RAID qualities of the hard drive.
My impressions:
So far, I'm thrilled. The plate was immediately recognized (drive firmware: NASware 3.0), a short time later she was formatted and ready to use. About the speed of HDD is when used in a NAS system idle talk, since everything depends on the network connection, for me it's read about 59 Mbit / s and 47 Mbit / s write (NAS via LAN to the router, access on router via WLAN). Unlike my previous 5400 series hard drive me fall on some differences: The read / write access to large files is subjectively much faster, as the beginning when streaming large files on the devices, the streaming is done per se as in the old plate easily. The hard drive is clearer than my old audible near the NAS, when it is in operation, but absolutely not overly loud. More housing vibrations I'll take a subjective right, despite the higher speed compared to the old record. In the resting state are with me about 6 watts to measure 13 watts in operation. The temperature in the housing is located with the built-in HDD with an average of 28 degrees, with load 45. So everything's alright.
My conclusion:
Previously fully recommendable. Prices of hard drives in this segment do not differ much, the best experience I made with WD, for years my highly reliable "house brand". Follow long-term experience.
