When I saw by chance that there is now a repeater of AVM, I had the faint hope at last to be able to find (large detached house, basement with reinforced concrete ceiling, wide footprint ...) a new approach to my wireless problems.
All previous attempts had failed, despite expertise. It failed with Siemens Gigaset repeaters or a second router compatibility / security issues through WDS (older repeater Standard) at Power-LAN on separate circuits in the house and with all other solutions in mind that I was not willing to pay more than 100, - Euro to invest in the solution.
Installation and Operation:
Such a simple and user-friendly initial setup I have rarely experienced. I work as a technical product manager every day with all kinds of mobile phones, smart phones and UMTS modems, but such a cleverly-designed installation procedure that is taken into account all eventualities I have encountered even by any other well-known manufacturers. I really have to admit envy! ;-)
Generally, I'm hard thrilled that the user never "in the rain is" and search needs - even in the device configuration via web browser is needed on all the same link (eg on the audio software for the use of audio-bridge).
If the repeater once configured, it retains all settings and can also be quickly once inside the house "transplant" into an outlet if you still times "more WiFi" requires quite the opposite, or for example in the garden.
For device itself:
The housing itself is pleasantly compact, unobtrusive and processed excellent quality. Well, white would be an alternative, but experience has shown that even faster dirty.
The three touch buttons are a pleasant innovation for this device class and together with the 15x7 dot matrix display can complete to a very helpful status display and operating possibility, even without an external connection to the device to have.
Compatibility:
I am using the repeater with a Speedport W 701V DSL router and had no change settings (except the MAC address of the Fritz! Repeater to allowed list add) there. Because I have experienced with previous repeaters or routers second already true "Installation cramps" ... and abandoned.
None of my clients used (HP Pavilion, Sony VAIO, iPod Touch, Freecom MP450 Media Player, Wii, HTC Diamond, Sony Ericsson C905, Siemens Gigaset WLAN54 dongle on WinXP PC) has even the slightest problem with the repeater - which I call a clever integration, one for all units completely invisible!
Audio interface:
Actually, I would be this far from the repeater already more than satisfied. Well, twenty euros less (prior review 98, - Euro) would also be justified, but this difference a good piece has earned at the latest with the function as an audio bridge. And that even with analog (3.5 jack) and digital (S / PDIF) output!
Attention:
The audio-routing software emulates a virtual sound card, which by the encoding wireless transmission decoding chain minimal delay is (in my case, but always less than one second!).
In addition, I've found in Windows Vista that at 100% volume in Windows Mixer slight distortions. But this phenomenon occurs with direct cable connection to your stereo also on ... so prefer to travel by 80%!
It also comes with full load IOM wireless network ever to small interruptions in the audio stream. If all other clients but more or less "silent", there's no problem.
My very positive review should please not be construed as advertising. That would be far from me, especially since I'm counting even more from the competition. But when technology freak and secondly fan of perfect user Design I'm really excited about this product and AVM can really only congratulate the litter!
