I wanted the solid-looking Fuji telephoto zoom like, but simply it has not made me Fuji. It is not a cheap entry-level zoom, so I have higher expectations of the lens.
The black packaging wonderfully simple and logical, it is the objective and to be presented and packed the sun visor safe.
Technically, it acts like a miniature lens the good old days, with an aperture ring, rotation and zoom wide AF ring and everything feels very solid to polycarbonate blend.
It is large, almost 12 cm long and in telephoto position it is then almost twice as long. The front lens does not rotate with and accommodates the use of polarizing filters.
But at the E-X1 and the X-Pro 1, it affects long and difficult, since it is heavier than the case itself. The cameras offer without a handle part (69) hardly a good grip, and certainly not holding with telephoto lenses of ergonomics here Fujifilm obviously too little. Unobtrusive photography is thus hardly possible.
The sun visor can be screwed easily firmly seated in reverse for transport. In use, it does a good job as a protective and before tilted sun. In telephoto it is to be effective as with virtually all zooms clearly too short full.

Optical Performance:

The Fujifilm 3.5-4.8 / 55-200mm OIS (11,8cm long - 590g difficult - 1: 5.6 magnification bez a VF) may, for example, the Panasonic 45-175 mm (9.0cm long - 210g heavy - 1: 2.5 do not hit) open aperture. The Fujifilm telephoto zoom is significantly heavier and larger, and has a somewhat lower magnification, is considerably longer, has no power zoom and costs twice as much.
Autofocus
Fujifilm has not made many innovative steps the autofocus development, he is despite repeated repair (Please download the latest software!) Still felt far from the microFourthirds-, Sony and Nikon system cameras. At first I had a lot of not perfectly sharp focused motifs, which is also due to my quick operation but. I am already at the next image and the Fuji has the present not sharp in the box. I'm spoiled by Canon, Nikon and Panasonic. With a little more calm then the non-moving motives were also focused properly.
But moving subjects can be captured so little sharp with the best will, here the Fuji-AF is still years behind the results with other system cameras and even further away from the DSLR results. The latest firmware brought here no significant improvement, the response speed is just too slow.

It is a good lens, but it would be better at 200 mm, ultimately, it is too large and too heavy to make really fun at the recent Fujifilm cameras. The Fuji XF system is obviously designed more for short focal lengths. Really annoys me even the aperture ring, although I am glad that he is back, but with 1/3 stops I can not do anything, the differences are too small, he should at least be reprogrammed to 'stages.
Therefore, if FUJI CAMERA SYSTEM - then prime lenses as 14 mm; 23 mm; 35 mm or 60 mm?
Both zooms have so far not fully convinced me in comparison.
I hope that Fujifilm autofocus with new Sensooren soon can make even faster and more accurate in the next cameras and finally also offers a camera with real grip.
