+ Like many other observers of nature, I started with a 10x binoculars and have noticed in practice, that lower magnifications have distinct advantages: wider field of view greater depth of field (which would, inter alia, less focus) and lower restlessness. A 7- or even 6x magnification seems to me now in this respect even more enjoyable than an 8-fold. Also for bird watching binoculars this is very appropriate. Seldom even a bird is just so far away that its particulars can not be recognized due to the low factor, but would, for example, a 10x32 or even 8x32 make a substantial difference.
+ The suffix "HD", or "High Definition" is no exaggeration. At least as long as you do not have extreme high-end binoculars for direct comparison, the picture looks very sharp and very brilliant. I especially like the strong, but at the same time natural color reproduction. I can perceive no color cast.
+ Extreme close-up of 90 cm. However, there is not the specific mechanism of the Pentax Papilio 6,5x21 of each other adds the two images in this area. You then therefore the overlap slightly only in the middle when two Vortex vision circles. If tried without knowingly made, this effect is rather disturbing. In the real application, so for example, the observation of a small animal, you hardly notice it, however. One can observe this effect even when dry test: You look at a labeled spine in one meter distance and noticed the blackish hourglass silhouette in the center. If you read the text on the other hand actually on the spine, this shadow has largely disappeared.
+ Unlimited factory warranty. However, where is the question of whether the probably quite small Japanese company will Vortex Optics "unlimited" exist - and this is true even more so for their representatives in Germany and Europe.
+ Waterproof. But that is now in this price range the rule.
o The focus wheel was plenty stiff at the beginning. That has changed in the meantime, it is now much softer. One can see the positive in regard to the practice, for the quality and life of mechanics and materials speak the less. Well, let's see.
o Also, by way of the aforementioned extreme close range has one very long Fokussierwege. This is used to, but bothers me now only a little. One trick is to simultaneously use fingers of both hands to rotate it focus wheel.
o Most of the time I have my binoculars in a camera bag. When pulling out, I also prefer often the ring for the diopter up and disguise him while unintentionally. Inside, really fixable Dioptrieausgleiche are however much more complex and expensive.
I recently had the terrain again a direct comparison with the Zeiss Victory 8x32 T * FL for currently 1442nd The Zeiss is mechanically and optically more categories on the Vortex. The focus wheel is much more precise, uniform and valent to use. The image is noticeably brighter, sharper and above all "felt more" - by that I mean that you at Zeiss much stronger the feeling has to be "in" image and not so much through the optics, ie a tunnel through it, on a picture to view. As a subjective advantage of the Vortex, however, I see the mentioned strong color reproduction, the image of the Zeiss contrast, seems almost sallow.
The relatively new Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 I have unfortunately never tried in the field. It currently costs 680 and has a close-up of perfectly adequate 1.5 meters. At least the picture quality of the Conquest models with 42 mm lens diameter is amazingly tight lie at the Zeiss considerably more expensive series.
Strange to say, offer Zeiss and other high-end manufacturers are currently no 7 times binoculars at. Presumably, they point out that their new 8 times have also extremely large field of view.
My conclusion: For the considerably lower Used Price that was a good buy. In the area more than 600 euros but I would probably still prefer to buy at a similar optical and mechanical quality binoculars a known (European) brand, even if the warranty period is much more limited. Especially the new Zeiss Conquest series should also distinguished by a kind of translation, a very fast focusing. Should there still be felt cheap, seems the new Zeiss Terra ED 8x42 is a good choice to be (364 euros). While it is significantly larger, but only slightly heavier than the Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 and even lighter than the Vortex Viper HD 6x32. An astonishing price-performance ratio is also the Minox BV 8x42 have.
