My search criteria:
~ 24 "
~ Full HD resolution (1920x1200 would be OK)
~ IPS panel for better color reproduction at different angles
~ Price range up to max. 250
After much research and reading various tests, inter alia, on Prad.de I could not decide between the Asus PA238Q and Dell U2412M me. Therefore, I decided to order both models to compare them side by side, me to choose one, the other to send them back and to send me a second personal "test winner".
To be brief now I have the Asus sent back and keep the Dell.
That is not to say that the Asus was bad. From the black level and the appearance of dark scenes in movies I found him subjectively even a tad better than the Dell. Nevertheless, the Dell has convinced me more all in one package. I would now like to list a few points of the monitors in a direct comparison here,
# Denotes tie
+ Means an advantage of the Asus model, a
- Means a disadvantage of the Asus model.
# Headache because PWM flicker I could see in any model.
# Color reproduction was slightly different ... but I can not decide subjectively which I thought was better
# The backlight stahlt both monitors a bit out of the corners ... can ever not say what "worse" or is that it is generally bad yet. Compared to my previous monitors (S24D300H) are both much much much much much much better !!! However, compared to my 5 year old previous Samsung SyncMaster P2250 both monitors are worse when it comes to the black level
+ The Asus an HDMI input that the Dell has not
+ When Asus all sorts of connecting cables were present for the various inputs
- The Stand requires a lot of space on the desk. The monitor itself is quite far "front" attached. That is, even if I push the pedestal all the way back to the edge of his desk, I have the actual monitor subjectively very close in their faces and are taking me felt up much space on the desk. The Stand at Dell is designed somehow different, so I actually backwards, can push up the wall the monitors.
- The "only" Full-HD resolution. I never thought of myself that I would criticize. I have finally for many years only 16: 9 screens had with Full HD resolution. The Asus Monitor came 2 days before Dell with me and to the direct comparison, the 1080 pixels in height are never crossed my mind to be a disadvantage. But if you two monitors, a 1080 and a has are 1200 side by side, one notices that the 120 pixels in Windows make operation much more than one would think possible ... The height gain corresponds to 3x the height of the taskbar (in Win8) , This results in different games "point of view". On my flight simulator I can therefore look much better out of the window and read the flight instruments. I can only recommend, mainly / anywhere else working in Windows / Linux, prefer to go up a monitor with 1920x1200 instead of Full-HD resolution. Who mainly want to watch movies, which had fallen to Full HD
- (A matter of taste) The Asus Monitor has at the front in the design of the frame with a red stripe, I was in real intrusive than in the pictures. I'm most comfortable simple. But that would be no reason for me was to return the monitor
My conclusion: Both monitors were the same price. Due to the practical shaped stand that is more discreet appearance and the higher resolution of 1920x1200 opposite 1920x1080 I entschlieden me against the Asus PA238Q and gained me two Dell U2412M.
