I'm trying the various possibilities of the camera and to elaborate on the use of the accompanying program 'D-ViewCam'. These are my experiences, made two free evenings. Of course, going just plug the camera to set up and monitor. However, the so-called 'zero configuration' refers only to a combination with a D-Link router.

The camera is very well made, somewhat reminiscent of R2D2, and has nearly a 360 ° all-round visibility. Almost because the Pan / Tilt values ​​(pan and tilt) with 340 ° and 120 ° due to design do not allow wholly owned panoramic view. The data for horizontal (66 °) and vertical (49 °) viewing angles are decent. Definitely better than the little sister DSC 932L, which I have also 2 pieces in operation. I think the more interesting 5020L, the image quality is better, and the options varied. Of course you can with a resolution of max. 640x480 (30 FPS) HD not expected. For me it is important whether someone is at the door, not who. However, the recorded videos in LAN operation are very fluid, and with a little good will and faces can be detected. In night mode, which can also be configured, the records are absolutely smooth (red thread, LAN or WLAN good). These recordings are somewhat reminiscent of the film 'Paranormal Activity', when the four-legged eg with illuminated eyes wanders through the apartment.

The 5020L (the L stands for the way the way the mydlink cloud), can also be mounted on the ceiling with the enclosed bracket. The attached program D-ViewCam is used for viewing live images on the PC as well as recording and settings. The configuration is relatively simple, if you have something worked. This time I have even taken the 172-page manual for help. It is only available in English only, but is quite easy to understand. Here you can adjust the motion detection more sensitive, because you can mark up to 10 freely chosen areas with your mouse. These have but unfortunately has no effect on the camera in stand-alone operation. But if the software is running, the number of false alarms can be reduced significantly. In addition to the visual trigger is also possible in acoustic detection triggering an alarm. Here, the camera can be adjusted by reducing the Empfindlichkeitan their surroundings. In addition to the permanent or configured to schedule video recording, there are SmartGuard. Here in motion, an audible alarm can be triggered (any .wav file), an I / O module are addressed, sent an email and the image of the affected camera will be displayed in the foreground. The theme of IP camera and NAS are completely new territory for me. But this combination is very interesting, and provides a number of ways. When the FTP server of the NAS is turned on, photos can be automatically back. Whether only when moving, or according to a defined schedule. The number of photos taken is max. 1,024 pieces, then they will be overwritten. Videos are saved without limitation .. Of course, even FTP servers can be on the computer or enter from outside. When the camera is properly configured, the PC can be turned off.

Interesting is also the digital PTZ function allows a zoom back of a selected area with the mouse. But beware, often can be seen more at normal distance. The thing dig with the 4-fold. Zoom has not yet been opened up to me so far, especially since the zoom speed in D-CamView is grayed out. It can be set various points, which controls the camera. These points are numbered, and can be addressed with the top figures of the keyboard. The numbers on the numeric keypad on the other hand speak each camera to directly. Using the cursor keys, I could at least control the 5020L horizontally and vertically. I have assigned a small add-on program to the already-present joystick, and can now both of these movements with the Coolie Hat Run.

A pretty good price, many settings are compared to the modest image quality and the rather poor WiFi reception. The camera, however, can also be configured as an additional access point. This allows the range of your wireless network to increase and so the next 5020L are involved, but the last word on this is not really. Glitches and permanent forced separations are unsightly side effects of weak reception. A repeater is not really the solution, since then the cameras can be reached from the outside only with the D-Link. I like the videos do not upload to a remote server, and therefore the use of a third party app. But this is again another long story.

The cameras profoundly affect the existing wireless network. An access to another device, such as a notebook, for example, is difficult. Especially when trying to come übern a repeater on the Internet.

With a DDNS account and a running VPN server on the NAS, the possibilities can be extended. This then requires, however, will be read into the matter.
